Happy Tax Day
To US taxpayers (and Singapore ones as well).
Now where is my refund?

yeah... I have been putting mine off for far too long. I need 5 hours of sleep, and then I'll sit down and get them done.
I have never done US taxes before... the tax percentages are so incredibly small.
you people hardly pay anything.

Ah! The solution is to not even file for five years, and spend half that time working at a commission job where none are taken out. Then file and see what yer total is.
I'm still puckered two weeks after gettin all those letters.
my bad.

Bite me hard. After a year of having upwards of a tenth of my salary withheld, I now find out that I owe them an extra week's pay. And I ain't a richie, not by any stretch.
Screw these people. This is the sort of thing that creates Republicans.

If a flat tax was introduced (or a flatter tax), you'd have to pay more if you are currently on a lower wage. Unless the government, hah, actually cut spending.

As a recent father, I got a fat return. You gotta love the child tax credit.

H&R Block just called me to inform me that I didn't file my 2002 Iowa State Tax Return and it is still sitting in their filing cabinets. I suppose I should take care of that.

I usually pay 50+ % in income tax.
My dad approaches 70% when you add up evrything.... but with his hourly wages it is not really a big deal.
Cheers

There was a Danish guy who did his Masters at the same time as me and he said that the people in the crappy jobs in Denmark (say, McDonalds) lived pretty well, while the better-paid jobs (say, bank manager) didn't do as well as they would in the UK. Although no one is really hurting there (was what he implied, anyway).

my last employer was such a bureaucratic nightmare that when I got my W-2 it listed NO federal tax withheld and the state tax paid to a state I didn't live in. I've had to file a complaint with the IRS because the red-tape is so bad I couldn't actually speak to anyone to rectify the problem.

Texas has no state income tax. They get you with property and sales taxes here. It's still not as confiscatory as the People's Republic of Minnesota is, I think.

And Texas law results in the most expensive home insurance in the nation. Although it's not as absurd as auto insurance in NJ.

It's weird, because the tax cuts were great initially. However, since the Feds no longer gather that money and send it to the states, the states have to make it up somehow. So after Dad got his check from GWB last year, his property taxes trebled to pay for the local school district's new facility that allows it to compete in AAAAA athletics. It's really amazing how much football drives things in this state.
