Foster Homes

Do they work? We have a new clinic at work that deals specifically with the needs of foster children. Most require exstensive counseling and medication. 99% have been mentally, physically and sexually abused.........it breaks my heart to read their stories. A society is judged by they way they treat their helpless (children, elderly, homeless, animals) and I feel the greatest country in the world has failed miserably when it comes to abused children and the other helpless. I have mixed feelings about foster care because I think a lot of people do it for the money and inflict even more emotional scars on these children, but am not sure what the alternative is. Then my faith in mankind is restored when I see someone who will take in a family of five or more kids so they aren't separated from each other (that is the hardest to watch, siblings being taken away from each other when it is all they have).

I would especially like to hear from Euphorbia since you have first-hand experience.

I was a foster parent for pregnant teens and teen mothers.The reason I'm not doing it anymore is liability.I hated to stop doing this but the last person I had hid a car from us and the state that was given by her father. Social services told me if she ever was to get in a wreck,we would be sued by her family.

It's hard to be a foster parent when your trying to raise these kids like your own but families are feeling sorry for themselves so they try to spoil these kids and make you out like the villan.

I have much appreciation for the foster parent's that can stick it out.

I stand corrected. 99% of the children in our practice. I didn't make it up, I read the cases.

well, two thoughts - 1) you ask if foster homes work - what are they supposed to be doing, in your opinion, and 2) what kind of medical clinic only has clients that are foster children? i'm curious because i've never heard of such a thing.

Try reading her post, GFY. She isn't a foster parent and I doubt she would ever be one, being all busy cybering you on the net while figuring out how to screw her husband over.

The 11 other families in our foster parent group would not fall in that catagory though. No one is hurting for the chump change they pay.
Hell, we have had to cut back on production in the studio because of foster care, dropping over half of the galleries we did business with.
