Michael Jackson has asked the media to respect the privacy of his family, as he awaits trial on child abuse charges.
On Wednesday a grand jury in California found there was enough evidence to force the singer, 45, to face trial.

Mr Jackson, who is staying in Florida, wrote on his website: "There are helicopters hovering above my residence, reporters staking out, and photographers lurking behind bushes." He is expected to enter a "not guilty" plea at a court hearing on 30 April.

Mr Jackson was arrested last November amid accusations that he molested a 12-year-old boy but denies any wrongdoing.

In December he was charged with seven counts of lewd acts on a child under the age of 14 and two counts of plying the boy with alcohol in order to seduce him at his Neverland ranch.

'Big lie'

Mr Jackson has dismissed the accusations as "a big lie" aimed at extorting money from him.

I am respectfully requesting that media organisations please respect my privacy and that of my children," he said.

"I greatly appreciate your cooperation."

Santa Barbara County prosecutors went to great lengths to keep the grand jury secret and the indictment was sealed - little is known about the exact nature of the charges.

On Friday the media covering the case, as well as Jackson's lawyers, asked the California Supreme Court to overturn a strict "gag" order imposed on the parties by Santa Barbara County Superior Court Judge Rodney Melville.

"The protective order bars those who are most knowledgeable about a criminal case that has garnered intense public interest from speaking to the public about the case, cutting off the best sources of truthful, timely information," lawyers for the media said in a written petition.

I was on my way to a music business conference in Nashville in 2001. We had an hour-and-a-half layover in Chicago, and I sat next to a guy in the waiting area. We started conversing, and he told me he was on his way to Nashville to be on a panel of music lawyers. I paid attention, because meeting a high-powered music attorney when you're a musician is pretty goddamn lucky.

He represented some of the biggest names in the business, yet seemed a really down-to-earth nice guy. He gave me his card, and said; "here, take a look at my old card." It simply said "Michael Jackson" on it, with his name in the corner. Wow.

We talked a bit about him, but he said he only met him once in the eight years he worked for him. He said that Michael Jackson's biggest problem is that he absolutely will not have anything to do with adults, because his Father is one of the world's greatest pricks, a real sadistic motherfucker.

The one time this attorney had to meet with MJ was to get some papers signed, that absolutely had to be done by noon or MJ would lose millions. He said the whole time he was in the room (about twenty minutes), MJ was on an arcade-style video game with a boy about 10 years old, and wouldn't be disturbed. Eventually, he left without getting the papers signed, and a few months later quit.

I asked him about the allegations that he'd fucked a kid (referring to the first time around, back in the early 90's), he said no way. There was absolutely no way Michael Jackson would have sex with a kid, because he envisioned himself as Peter Pan. (I shit you not, that was the man's exact words.)

I've felt sorry for Michael Jackson ever since. I even make fun of him sometimes (I'm an asshole, so it's hard not to take potshots at that big of a target), but I really believe that anybody who clings so desperately to a vision of themselves as being totally different that what they actually are is mentally ill. He was one of the most famous black men in history, but he wants to be a white woman. One look at the remains of his face tells you all you need to know.

Anyway, that really opened my eyes; Michael Jackson cannot deal with adults. When I see him, or hear him on TV, it's just so sad. I don't think he had sex with kids, that doesn't fit the pattern of someone trying so hard to remain a child. But that's just my opinion and there's probably a lot of people who disagree. His music sucks big-time anyway (I once described it onstage as "a drum machine in a monkey cage at the zoo during feeding time"), so it really doesn't matter that much to me. I'm guessing it'll be the "TRIAL OF THE CENTURY" and we'll see nothing else for the whole goddamn summer. Move over Monica and OJ. This is the year I finally shoot my TV.

I don't want to believe that Jacko diddles kids. When I was growing up he was one of my idols, but the guy has gone and crossed the line from weird to just plain creepy. It's really sad to see one of the greatest musicians ever fall from grace in such a way.
