Last night was the final game of the Toyota Copa Libertadores de América 2004 , the Western hemisphere's equivalent of Euro 2004. I was outside a bar smoking around 11 when the game apparently ended. Thousands of Colombians poured onto the streets making a Lot of noise. Cars all started honking. Police vans appeared and disgorged hundreds of cops. I guess living in the largest Colombian neighborhood outside Colombia this could be expected, except I didn't know who was playing or that it was the championship. Roosevelt Avenue looked like Times Square. So, yeah, ¡Viva Colombia! Argentina must feel like 1982, losers.

According to my coworker, it was a similar scene here in Astoria yesterday at 5 when Greece beat the Czech Republic. (Astoria is the largest Greek city after Athens).
