today i was here . ysee that speck in the middle? well thats hitler. and see all those 300,000 or so people marching and looking at him adoringly? theyre nazis. today i stood in the exact same spot where hitler is and looked out over the place. this spot. i went to this big museum all about the nazi rallies here. it just takes your breath away. the majesty of it all.


this chick i was with took a picture of me overlooking the whole the thing and shell email me it in august so expect to see this topic bumped.

seriously though. its just so sad. apart from when people go to museums or the camps or whatever its all never really talked about, yet yknow it must cross every germans mind at least once a day. its just sad to have collective past that people feel ashamed about.

they must be. and they are. the nature of the whole thing was just so vicious and calculated. we could play the numbers game and list dictators who have killed more people, but in terms or real horrorshow stuff, they took the cake. and man, their grandparents. if my granddad wasnt dead and was in the SS or was a camp doctor or some shit, it would just be fuckedup.

There was some program on TLC or Discovery or something the other day where an old German guy was showing one of Hitler's bunkers. They were recreating it with a computer in 3D. He said something like "Many people want to fill these in and forget them, but the past is past and it is not something to be afraid of. It is better to remember."

Most germans I have met I have never discussed war at all with. In fact the last ones just wanted to complain about beer prices. My friend Nicole once knew a couple guys that were here working and she'd call them 'fucking nazis' (but, to be fair, she did teach them to call her a 'fucking savage,' being native american). She once tried to photograph them with a swastika she drew on a napkin and they freaked out saying they could be arrested. Instead she took a picture with a piece of paper stuck to her head that said 'slut' in german for them to send home.
