Not up to his usual standard. I think possibly that since he moved from Rolling Stone to The Atlantic, he's felt that he needs to upgrade his intellectual tone. The book is observant (particularly so in his chapter on the 2002 peace rally in Washington), but lacks his usual flashes of insight. More troublesome is the absence of even one good laugh-out-loud funny moment--he more or less tops out at "wryly amusing."
