Which baseball team?

There are four teams relatively near me; New York Yankees, New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies and Baltimore Orioles.

NYY are sickening and also two and a half hours or so away from here. But, the most local minor league team here are Trenton Thunder, who are a Yankees farm team, so I'd maybe see people rising up to the majors, or coming back from injury, at Trenton.

NYM have a nice stadium, but are also maybe 2 1/2 hours away from here. Their stadium was only half full when I was there, on a Saturday against a relatively local team. I don't know how many Mike Piazza fumbles at first base I can bear to watch. They need a designated fielder rule for him.

Baltimore is also about 2 1/2 hours away. I could buy cheap smokes in Delaware on the way down there. Their stadium is great (went past it a while back), but I don't know very much about them and, in any case...

Phillies are closest and appear sufficiently frustrating to make supporting them entertaining (they are finding it hard to score when there are players on base). Jim Thome is amusing looking (and why is his helmet so battered?). They are probably unfashionable, which is good. Their strip is pretty shitty.

I'm thinking probably Philly.

I wouldn't have accidentally put this in IOD if we had a sports forum.

I was going to say Philly. Orioles are cool too, though.

Philly.

Last year I'd say Baltimore, because the fans seem great and they have arguably the best stadium around.

This year, however, Philly has a new stadium of their own that seems to be getting reviewed well. The old field was probably the worst in baseball so that's a huge upgrade there. Thome is probably the most exciting player on any of the 4 teams you mentioned (unless you're a filthy man-lover, in which case Jeter would be the best attraction (unless you're a filthy man-lover with a mustache fetish, in which case Piazza would be the best attraction)). We don't get many Philly games on TV here so I'm not exactly sure what Thome's helmet looks like, but I'm guessing it has to do with pine tar. A lot of players switch out helmets after a while. Thome probably has the same helmet he started out the season with.

Odd that. I heard the bus ride was like 45 minutes.

Our Canadian governor raised cigarette tax in Michigan since I went to NYC, ours is now the second highest in the country.

Philly is probably the easiest to get good seats, but maybe they are one of those cities that has a fairly full ballpark no matter what.

The obvious choice is the Tigers.

Baltimore. Definitely. I've had a soft spot in my heart analogue ever since their little 21 game, season-opening losing streak a few years back.

Edit: FUCK! That was actually 16 years ago. I guess that really stretches the bounds of the word "few".

Well, the obvious choice is Los Angeles. However, your predicament is one of distance, I suppose. So, stick with the Phillies because at least you'd be in the National League which doesn't have that pussy designated hitter rule. I know the Mets are technically in the NL but really, they're just a random team who made it to the World Series a few years back with help from the devil. They're all a bit too high to notice how badly they suck. The Yankees are shite. Baltimore's okay, but again, pussy DH rule.

Well, it's an hour and 10 minutes out to here. But it is an hour and a half going back into NYC, pretty much, and then you have to get the subway out to Queens or Bronx.

If you want to take Baltimore, tune in quick and watch the twins stomp em into the dirt.

Only baseball now showing on the channels I get here is Braves-Mets and Cubs-Phillies. So, I'm watching the Phillies.

I love Thome; he is extremely exciting to watch. Mainly because every at bat is like Russian Roulette. He either smashes the heck out of the ball or strikes out swinging. Look at his stats, they're all doubles or homers. I'm not sure he realizes that singles are allowed.

And you think he's amusing to look at, you should hear him being interviewed. He's the poster child for corn-fed country boys. He's the sweetest, humblest player I've seen, but I don't think he's too bright. (And his helmet has always been like that, no clue why.)

The yankees are evil and the Mets suck. I don't know much about Baltimore (other than they stole their football team), so I'd go with Philly.

Would have been cool if Milton had pitched that no-hitter (he had already pitched one for the twins). The fielder so nearly had that first hit (and they weren't far off the second).

Things will be much better when you get rid of that waster, Randy Johnson.
