Rabbit is Rich

Rabbit is Rich - Updike

Anyone read this recently? Recently enough to talk about it, I mean. I just finished it last night - part of a marathon read through all four books. It's left me rather puzzled. I have a few ideas about it, but it still seems rather out of place after Rabbit Run and Rabbit Redux, and I want to toss some ideas around and hear what others have to say about it. Anyone read it and willing to discuss it?

I don't think I've read any Updike. I did read an exceprt or short story titled "Timequake" in Playboy a few years ago that might have been Vonnegut.

I very much suggest Updike, if you like american authors at all. I adore his style, beautifully realistic and very vivid. His writing has actually affected how I see things, I have greater insight into my motivations when I act, and occasionally, into others. And the history nerd in me enjoys the perspective he gives on the decades he wrote about. At least, that's the effect he had on me. That, and his words are pretty. Hurrrrr!

Timequake = Vonnegut. That crazy's last novel, I think. Slaughterhouse 5 may be enough of him for me, though.

Is he the one that wrote Cat's Cradle? That's the only one of his I read. Not bad, I guess.

Yeah, it doesn't get much traffic or attention. Probably because no one really reads anymore, and those of us who do read, don't read the same stuff.
