FAO Fiend

when you say 'techno' do you mean techno as in richie hawtin/jeff mills or do you mean 'techno' as in dj tiesto (which isnt techno but trance/hard trance and is poo?)

you americans call everything electronic 'techno' hence the confusion.

sort it out guv.

(edit: thankss nazi cockney)

I call anything that is techno techno.

(That includes house/acid/whatever the hell else).

I think you need to be a raver to know or care about the difference between any of it.

Edit. Raver? My god, just seeing that word sends shivers down my spine! The horror. I've seen enough of that kind to last an eternity. Please refrain from using that word again. I beg you. Thanks.

i'm with cockney on that.

sure, we get candy ravers in seaside resorts and up north (with their glow sticks and space cadet clothing) but other wise, you need to go back a decade to find the likes of phil mashed out of his head in a warehouse to see what a raver should look like.

otherwise, we just have people who go clubbing. but not 'raving'.

you americans (like your love for the word 'soccer') need to ease away from using it.

please, please, please.

devilmoon, i think thats the problem.

if someone asks me 'suggest some techno to me' then i will suggest 'techno' in the true sense of the word.

Techno to me means; Derek May, Kevin Saunderson, Nexus 21, Rising High, Jumpin & Pumpin. Trans-Mat Records and Gherkin Records comes to mind also. This is before "Techno" exploded on the charts/billboards way back in the late, late 80's & early 90's.

Suggest some of your favourite albums/artists which are in the dance/electronic/clubbing genre which you like the most.

I'm not up with the terms, but I want more music!

I don't think it's an American thing. We have plenty of electronic music snobs here, too.

Incidentally, if you ever want an exercise in the futility of genre snobbery, get in an argument with an American hardcore punk over what is or isn't emo.

SDRE is emo. Paris @ 2am is emo. Rainer Maria is emo. Seconds Separate the Days is emo.

His Hero Is Gone is screamo.

indeed. i have one who works for me that insists that "emo" isn't even a genre. he refuses to acknowledge any term that he himself would not use. he says that all music is emo-tional, so that term is stupid.

he doesn't want to admit he's an emo pussy. heh.
