A dead guy.....

won for US Senate in Missouri!!
How do you think his competition felt?

On October 16th, yes just weeks before the election, Missouri governor Mel Carnahan died in a plane crash with his son. Yesterday he was elected for US Senate. His wife Jean is going to take his place. If I was the other guy (John Ashcroft) I think I would feel a bit dumb.



Ohhh and I got 2 newspapers declaring Bush as president!!! Maybe someday they will be worth something like back when Truman was president but they printed up that someone else won. Damn I cant remember the other guys name. I think it started with a D.

1. They elected a dead guy in MO
2. Joe Lieberman ran for two offices in the same election

I have decided that not only am I running for every single thing on the Michigan ballot in four years, Richard Nixon is my Presidential running mate.

Exactly DM. Ashcroft took the high road and said he wouldn't contest the results. Fuck that ... Carnahan should have been crossed off the ballots. Aside from the legal aspect (you must be a resident at the time of election to be considered on the ballot), his wife actually exploited his death.

I was wondering the whole time that I was watching the returns come in how it would be possible to vote a dead guy in to office. Shouldn't his name have been removed from the ballots? It seems that the people of MO decided to 'honor his legacy' or whatever by voting for him and they did so in the belief that his wife would take his place, so I guess it wasn't like they were duped, I just think that they should have had a write-in campaign for her or put her on the ballot.

They claim it was too late to remove him from the ballots .. Stellar, can you help here? How is voting done in MO, machines or manually?

How long do you have to be dead before your name gets taken off the ballot? Is the law there just in case you decide you aren't really dead?

OK, I think the law should be that if you die and you stay on the ballot, you have to be stuffed and left in the senate chambers or wherever your office is.
You would be mounted it such a way that you are giving the Pope wave so you can be placed on floats during parades.
At least once during your term, you will be found in a compromising position with a stuffed racoon or armadillo. You will be quoted as having "no comment" for this as with any other subject you are expected to comment on.
You will only be allowed to run for one term unless there is no one else to run against you for the next term.

Add those amendments and the law makes sense.

I was thinking about this on the election night. What is the president elect suddenly died. Who would then be nominated into office? The president elects VP? Or if he died while running or maybe on the night of the elect before the last ballot was finished? I think that would become very interesting if that happened.
