Xerox

I'm in this school to learn how to repair Xerox machines. It's pretty cool, theres a lot to them. I just can't wait to finish, I have 2 weeks left and at the end I get an uber cool certificate that says I can work on the thingers. It's like a $5,000 school and my command sent me free of charge, plus I get to miss work and underway time...what more can I ask for?
So what's going on with all y'all Asylumites?

I'm hoping for a copier to fall on your head and squish it.

Can you earn a good salary fixing Xeroxes?

Also: If I say, "I'm going to xerox my paper", I really mean to say, "I'm going to photocopy my paper." What is the word that expresses using a company name in lieu of the real word?

I think Xerox techs can make good money, Xeroxes cost thousands of dollars and the tech guys charge like $80 an hour.

That's just like saying hand me a Kleenex.

What has the world come to?

Their machines are all digital now. They're called Xerox machines, but obviously nothing like the mimeographs of old.

from what i understand though. all the machines that i am getting certified on are contracted through Xerox. So there can't be any freelance type work, I would have to actually work for Xerox.

On top of that EVERYONE working for xerox has been there since the dawn of time. I think the last person they hired, at the center I am going to school at, was 26 years ago. So it isnt looking like such a great chance

They have Xerox people here. They walk around in blue lab coats, I have no idea what company they are servicing though.

are xerox machines that interesting???

I mean, come on now..... You scan, you copy, you get drunk at the office party and print out pics of your ass.... Thats about it.... Oh then you run out of toner... I know that pain. Happened to me all the time in kosovo. Tried once to fix it myself, got toner over my uniform and now have the risk of developing finger cancer, or so i have been told.

I haven't been following them lately, but Xerox was really losing ground on marketshare in printing and imaing to companies like Cannon and HP because they basically neglected r&d in the late 1990s. It sounds like they're feeling the pinch in photocopying as well, which is still their core business.

And there's no way photocopy techs make $80/hr - 500 ton crane operators in the city don't make that much/hr.
