A Wonderful message from George Carlin

...whose wife died recently.
I gotta share.

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but
shorter tempers, wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less; we buy more, but enjoy less.
We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.
We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom. We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values.
We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often. We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbour.
We conquered outer space but not inner space. We've done larger things, but not better things. We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice.
We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to_ produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.
These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes.
These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill.
It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete.
Remember; spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever. Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.
Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only pleasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent.
Remember, to say, "I love you" to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you.
Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again. Give time to love, give time to speak, and give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
George Carlin

I got this in my mailbox at work. It really touched me.And I usually don't read stuff like this.
I can't say George Carlin's my favorite comedian,but he's a good man.

Arguing the source seems somewhat academic, doesn't it?

George Carlin, Gary Coleman, the fuckin' Pope...the author seems profoundly less important than the content of the words.

One of the reasons that little missive rings true on many levels is that we, as a general rule, tend to mock and deride anything that exposes our shortcomings or threatens our fragile ego.

Defensive cynics. Go figure.

Here's the thing: If I sound like a pussy, so be it, but I must say that the author must've gone through some serious shit in order to write something like that. It's hard to come across like that unless one had experienced some sort of traumatic loss. I tend to believe we all wish for someone that we can spend the rest of our days with: Someone that can make one better inside the frozen part of us that we like to refer to as our hearts; part muse, part friend, and part confidant. Some of us are lucky: That "mission" to find a mate has happened and through thick and thin the two of you push through. OK, so I'm making pretty good money, I have a few cool things around my house, and I'm lucky to have family and friends around me that truly care about me. What I don't have is that missing part. Hey, sucks to be me. Every time I look for that woman, I get fucked up the ass somehow (shit stolen from me, catching her banging a mutual friend on her bed during her birthday party after she thought I left, being a psycho-bitch from hell, dying from a heorin overdose, etc.) Belive me, I've done my bid to find that woman, but I still have faith that maybe the right situation will fall on my lap when I least expect it. So someone wrote some sappy shit about a significant other, people flame each other because one is gulible to think that George Carlin actually wrote it. It's some good words: GET OVER YOURSELVES! You're all lucky you have that one when most of us are sitting home wishing we can be you, alright?

1. If not someone famous, we prolly wouldn't have seen it.
2. I thought the content was sappy as well (Rokkr has disappointed me for the first time). It's not 'strong' writing in any way methinks.

We have a new neighbour since the old feller next door died (grhs). I think we should let them finish the refurbishment before springing the fact that there's a bunch-o-freaks living next door
