That sucks. How long are they going to be on that strike if they're being held there for months
I don't think strikes like that have ever worked before

to hell with them, to hell with their strike. I suggest we parade big macs and tenderloin steaks in front of them until they yield... and if they dont yield, lock the door and ignore the eventual smell.

I could go into how a lot of the people at Guantanamo have not been charged or accused of a crime, so saying they want to see you and your family die is premature at least, but we (the Asylum) have had that argument several times before.

it tends to be along the lines of
"they havnt even been _ACCUSED_ of a crime"
"lalalalala im not listening. im voting for bush because he protects me!"

for me, this hasnt got much to do about bush Zim... although thank you for the painfully daft outburst there...

If you are in guatanomo you OBVIOUSLY are into it upto your elbows. It isnt as if they pluck joe nobody out of the street and whisk him away for a session of fingernail torture in cuba simply because he has a crappy 'flock of seaguls' hairdoo. You are either an active terrorist or know an active terrorist very well and are not willing to pony the fucker up to the authorities.

As far as that boat goes.... i am pretty sure the United States Coastguard sunk it. Which is a pity cos it is damn nifty. I would have kept it and put it on display.... or sold it on ebaby.

it's so OBVIOUS, who needs due process?

I mean, you are either an active terrorist or know an active terrorist very well and are not willing to pony the fucker up to the authorities, ... or being held because you tried to drive a buick to florida.

Im not asking you to let em go. Charge em, try em, and then carry out justice.

... like i said, "they havn't even been ACCUSED"
"but they're OBVIOUSLY guilty! lalalalala im not listening"

Thank you for backing up the assumption in my 'painfully daft outburst'

on a somewhat related note:

http://abcnews.go.com/wire/Politics...40922_1736.html

"Under terms of the agreement, Yaser Esam Hamdi must renounce his American citizenship but will not face any criminal charges."

It's so OBVIOUS that he's guilty that after more than two years, we're releasing him without charge.

quote:
Corallo said Hamdi's intelligence value had been exhausted, leading to the decision to release him.

quote:
Sen. Patrick Leahy of Vermont, the senior Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, questioned Wednesday how the Justice Department could "release and send to Saudi Arabia someone they said was so dangerous that he had to be held for years in a military stockade and could not be allowed to consult with a lawyer."

Good question i'd say.

quote:
Shane Kadidal, an attorney for the nonprofit Center for Constitutional Rights that has fought for detainee rights, said the government held Hamdi not because of an alleged crime but "rather on suspicion that he might know something, anything, useful to the government."

I'd say the release and Corallo's statement confirms that.

quote:
Hamdi was captured on a battlefield in Afghanistan where he was fighting alongside the Taliban in late 2001. He was held for three months at the U.S. Navy base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, before being transferred to a Navy brig in the United States when officials realized he was a U.S. citizen.
Frankly, I'm pretty pissed that this guy's been released. He should be charged with the crime and given a trial.

The amazing thing is that Padilla hasn't been released, and he _WASNT_ on a battlefield. He was simply informally accused.

Speaking of Padilla, ...
quote:
The disposition of the Hamdi case leaves the Bush administration holding one U.S. citizen as an enemy combatant in the war on terror: former Chicago gang member Jose Padilla. Padilla is suspected of plotting with other al-Qaida operatives to launch attacks inside the United States, including a plan to fill apartments in several cities with natural gas and detonate them.

Hadn't heard that one, but still accusations without charges associated with them. What happened to the infamous 'dirty bomb'?

FEAR! UNCERTAINTY! DOUBT!

I mean, he's a gang member. Who cares?

"I mean, he's a gang member. Who cares?"

Actually he is an enemy soldier who was taking up arms against our soldiers, his gang activities have nothing to do with it. The fact that he is an enemy solder does......

I will however concede gracefully on the issue of the cuban detainees (i bet you dont get much of that in the forum world as ego's tend to be a tad frail)... their stay in guatanomo is not for purposes of interrogation it is purely for them to await the asylum process. Unfortunately they dont seem to like having to wait for asylum process and want the green cards now.... And a chicken fillet meal with mashed potatoes.

However, when it comes to the nice case of mr padilla.... I seem to remember hearing that treason was a crime punishable by death. And so far as i know, taking arms against your own country is ummmm treason. He was damn lucky to have gotten away with what he did get.

Padilla wasn't an enemy soldier.
Hamdi was.
Hamdi has been released
Padilla has not.

Confused? Me too.

and on treason, it's only punishable if the same overt act has been witnessed by two individuals.

"No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court."

Padilla was picked up in Chicago O'Hare under accusation that he was going to explode a 'dirty bomb'. It turns out he had no knowledge to build, and had no material to construct such a bomb. The only dirty bomb he's dropped was in a toilet.

I know that you don't feel like talking about this anymore- but they're not protesting being detained altogether it's how long they're kept and the conditions that are there
