guess what my fucking mess of a country decides to do?

put a 5cent tax on every packet of chewing gum. the streets, you see, theres chewing gum on the streets.

some taxes i pay (and why i pay them):

income tax (for roads i dont drive my nonexistant car on, health system and more)
pay related social insurance or PRSI (so that "the taxpayer" (me) doesnt have to bail me out if i end up in hospital)
stamp duty on cigarettes (so that my pay related social insurance doesnt have to bail me out if i end up in hospital)
chewing gum tax (fucked if i know)

exactly, dood. €4000 of a garnishment to every bum and their accommodation pays for itself.

I know you'll hate me for this but it actually makes sense to me.. gum is not disposable in nature
We are charged for garbage (I don't know if it's like that everywhere) depending on how many bags you throw away- you are allowed to throw out up to two per week and you have to pay an additional charge if you have more than this
But it helps keep the environment cleaner

How does being charged for throwing away rubbish help keep the environment cleaner?

no the whole point is that we live during a "use-once-and-destroy" era- people care more to recycle this way - to reuse and watch what should go into the garbage and what shouldn't
we are not as careless anymore
And the money is used by the government to take care of that
By the way if the police will catch you littering outside- you're in trouble either way

Until just recently, gum was totally banned in Singapore. (You could actually get arrested there for having gum!)

I heard about this
I think this is taking the law a little over the top but something has to be done- gum is available and cheap and it's some of the worst litter in the environment

Me, being well hard, imported loads of gum into Singapore when it was banned.

Didn't think about it as it goes, had copious quantities of nicorettes on me, non-smoking flight it was.

They stop the gum ban? Pressure from the gum-lobby?

Fuck that pun sucked, skalie.

They do not sell gum at LaGuardia or Kennedy airports.

I always have to remember to bring gum with me (for the ear popping).

you are such a bad example
At least throw your gum into the garbage once you're done
And I just turned on the tv and there's the gum-and fast food-litter Simpsons episode
I don't know if anyone here watches that
