Best British Film? I would say it's a 3-way tie with
1) If.... - made in 1968 w/ Malcolm McDowell about a group of English Private School Kids that decide that they want to rebel and kill other students and teachers from the school roof. Brilliant film
2) Trainspotting - made in 1996 w/ Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller, and of course Robert Carlyle. It's basically about a bunch of Scottish drug-takers(and 1 alkie) that go through hell (each in his/her own way) before deciding on making a drug deal with a kilo of smack that they stumble across. It put Scottish and British actors in the spotlight. Great movie.
3) Monty Pyton's Life of Brian - made in 1979 with the Monty Pyton troup (John Cleese, Graham Chapman, Eric Idle, Michael Palin, Terry Gilliam, and Terry Jones) and zeros in on Brian that lives his life at the same time as Jesus Christ. The only difference is that he gets the short end of the stick in every turn (Always Look on the Bright Side of Life!). This movie is a pisser!
