Sweet Jesus. Since the outgoing Sec. Thompson made his comment about terrorists attacking the food chain (which seemed weird at the time), CNN appear to have wet their collective pants. People calling for much more government checking, etc (presumably they don't think that they pay enough tax already).

It almost looks as if the projected situation next year, where the US will import as much food as it exports (first source is the EU, then Canada; hardly any from the Middle-East, and most of that from Turkey), has led some of these people to wish to scare consumers into buying American just to support US agriculture.

Surely the way to attack the food supply is to poison one in thousand beef joints at the packing plants , johnson + johnson baby food style.

I mean if you can find a mad/clever/trained enough terrorist (something I reckon is really hard) getting jobs a minimum wage packing plants / / warehouses etc cannot be impossible.
you would only need a few syringes for about a week, hardly enough time for it to be traced back to you, kill a few hundrd and scare the whole country.

Of course i might not know about some clever food checks they do

I sort of felt that he was either disgruntled about something relating to it (like maybe he was continually ignored in cabinet when he brought this risk up) or else he was somehow going to bat for domestic agriculture (and to be honest, it is more the reaction to it that favours domestic agriculture, than the original statement itself). It was very strange though; I'm sort of thinking that it was that he had been ignored and wanted to hit back and also make sure that the issue couldn't be ignored.
