figure drawings [nudity omfg]

this is the most recent figure drawing in my drawing class:

it was three sessions of three hours each.

here's a few of the 2 - 5 minute gesture sketches from before the full figure study

i have another one to psot, from when we used a black female model in a 6 hour study, but my professor still has that. will post it when i get it back.

Those are pretty nice. What is the point of the timed gesture drawing? Does it help you loosen up your line, or force you to learn the figure better?
Just curious.

thanks!
the gesture sketches help you to learn to draw what you're seeing rather that what you think you're seeing, which teaches you to pay attention the the figure more. and helps you to make your lines more loose and gestural.
also, it's a good exercise as a transition from still life to figure studies, which is what we did in this class.

My mom used to have me sit down as a child and draw my hand or my thumb without looking at the page, but rather at the thumb itself, while I drew. I assume that is a common exercise, but I got to know my thumb intimately in any case.

Good stuff, Av. Is it me or do they always seem to find the ugliest fucking people for live models?

Nice work. Is it hard to show perspective without changing the weight of the subject? I always had a hard time with human proportion vs perspective in art class.

yeah, that's called blind contour drawings. it helps you to see minute details and changes in contour that you would normally brush right over without noticing.

i find it extremely tough. in my drawing above, her legs look slightly too large for her body, because of the perspective. i asked the professor about it and she said it looked accurate to what i was seeing, but on paper, because of the lack of real perspective, it looks different.

the foot looks kinda awkward too, because of the foreshortening. it was pointing towards me, kind of, so it was tough.

haha, i have worked with a couple of ugly ones, but this one i actually found to be quite attractive. she had a very slender body, but still had enough curves to give it visual interest. and the bones on her chest were awesome, because of the lighting we had. i had a great time drawing that part.

the model was walking around the room during a break, looking at people's drawings, and she mentioned that she really liked mine. she said it must have been very challenging to get the face to be a likeness of her own face, because of the angle, but that i got it pretty accurately. coming from the model herself, that made me feel really good
