Milestone Thread: 4 years and 1000 posts later.

Well, almost 4 years ago I ventured through the gates of this eerie asylum.

I certainly don't know the lot of you as much as I would like, but maybe that will change in the next 4 years.

Either way, I'm thankful for a place filled with so many different people capable of expressing their beliefs and opinions without getting asshurt over someone who differs with them.

It's a good mesh of folk around here, and certainly not worth changing.

I guess with saying that I'm thanking everyone and therefor have to distinguish no single person.

Ha!

Actually, bit of Asylum history, the Wraith came here through that. P-man (who was Stileproject Whore or some damn thing then) was posting in the webmaster forum for help with his pirated software, oblivious to the idea that some people who passed through there might in fact be playing for the other team. So I guess (sketchy on the details as it didn't involve me) the Wraith (who kinda worked for infopop specifically smoking out little pirates like P-man--like that was what he did, he had for years just wandered around the internet shutting people down) contacted P-man offering help and asking for specifics. Then, after P-man took the bait, Wraith absolutely tore his shit up, shut down his site, and Wraith posted a copy of his last message to P-man in that SPF webmaster forum. I don't know if I still have it somewhere, but it ended with the line "But if you see an email from me in your inbox, it's already too late." or somesuch.

P-man tried to edit out all his posts in which he asked for help with his pirated software and tried to protest that it was all bullshit, but as the man said, it was too late.

Anyway, I thought the whole thread at SPF in which this happened was so funny, I posted about it here, and re-linked the thread here in the SPF thread. Wraith followed it to Asylum and gave a bow. He'd been through probably thousands of little unknown forums in his tenure at infopop, and never hung around any of them after he ate some people's lunches, but for whatever reason he started coming back to this one, and gradually became a regular here. And then, in a roundabout way, we ended up getting him fired from the job that had brought him to SPF in the first place.

Anyway, it's all part of the long and twisted legacy that is Asylumnation (Asylumwhores back then). Good times. Thanks for the laugh at your expense, P-man.

I don't recall my site being shutdown. Just that I wised up a bit, I suppose.

It really isn't as bad as you make it out to be. There was perhaps 2 e-mail correspondances. One was the initial, and the second was him saying "my lawyers are going to be contacting you."

They never did.

It was a scare tactic, I suppose, that worked. I stopped using it, didn't end up paying for it, and found a free message board instead. w00t

Incidentally, as a sidebar to the sidebar, the title of that there thread "Can you shove that broom handle a bit more up my ass please?" used to be a common return on search engines for some reason. Like anybody that searched for some weird but somewhat common techie words would get as their second or third result a big link with the title "Can you shove that broom handle a bit more up my ass please?" It was one of our big hitters in terms of bringing people in through search engines for awhile, I believe.
