So the retail craziness thread got me thinking.

Do you tip? If so what kinds of business do you tip? Do you use a percentage or just whatever you feel like? Do you feel obliged to tip?

Myself I never do. I might just be tight but thats mainly because i'm skint. Even if I were rich though I dont think i'd tip I mean I get served either way right?

Why do people tip in a cafe and not in a Mc D's? Does the classy atmosphere make all the difference? A guy still has to throw your shit together and give it to you. Whatcha think?

If you can't afford the tip, you can't afford the purchase. It is part of the price of a meal, and they should spit in yer food if you don't do it.

Thats my point if thats the case why not just increase the price on the menu and automatically let the staff deal with the cut. It'd take choice out of the equation.

I don't think thats a right way to think. It seems like a kind of mean and intimidating attitude for a store to take.

i don't tip in the westren world. i just don't see the point, i think its backwards and silly

yes, about 20% in restaurants, give or take depending on the service. about the same at a bar, give or take, depending on whether or not i go there often.

the interesting dilemma, in my opinion, comes when having food delivered to your home. some very good tippers i know insist that you only have to tip a dollar or two to the delivery man, even on, let's say, a twenty dollar tab... others just stick with 15-20%.

what about you guys?

I tip a couple of bucks to delivery people. But it is normally about 15%.

Well, unfortunately, even though you don't like it, waiters don't get paid full wage. They get paid something like $2.15 an hour here, and they count on tips as their wage. And I think it's pretty shitty that you don't tip them. You aren't paying them extra, and you should look at a menu as if the food is $12 instead of the $10 as listed. Whether you like it or not, that's just how it works. You don't tip at MacDo because they get payed a full wage, minimum, but full. I am rather appalled that you don't tip. What if your employer said "Oh, I don't feel like paying you for this week, because I'm a tightwad. Besides, I don't feel like paying you extra to do your job." That's essentially what you're doing, and that is a very appropriate analogy before ya'll say otherwise.

And the point of my objection is that hidden expenses are obnoxious. Additionally, I don't believe that there should be a minimum wage at all and if people don't like the wages they have, get a better job or, if they lack the talent or inclination so to do, live on what they get.

I tip 20% and when I tip less,I explain to the waiter just why and I keep it simple. I only had to do this once. The guy gave my food and I never saw him again. We were done and thirsty and I payed the cashier up front. He got a dollar tip,just cause I was being nice.
Back when I delivered pizza,we made this very detailed map of our delivery area,houses,apartments;you would have to be a complete idiot to get lost with this map. Anyway,the drivers got together and worked out a system. Non-tippers got a black thumbtack over their house or apartment,1 to 2 dollar tippers got a yellow thumb tack and over 2 dollar tippers got a green thumbtack. When things got busy,and we were pullung 6 to 9 houses per run,guess who got their pizza's first!
I think it's because of my pizza delivery job that I tip more than ever. These people absolutely depend on it.

Oh yea. A cold pizza means that thing's been in the car for over an hour. They used to have a 30 minute guarantee but no more cause too many drivers lost their licenses for speeding cause they cared more about the customers and the extra cash in their pockets than their carreers. Now if the pizza's over a hour old,unless you were told it would take over an hour cause it's game night or some shit,They usually will replace it for you and offer you a freebie of some sort.
