The Spawning Run by Wiulliam Humphrey

A rare book now I understand--recently given to me as a gift by my grandson. The Spawning Run is a small book--only 55 pages--more a long essay than a book. William Humphrey (author of The Ordways, Home From The Hill, and A Time And A Place) was a devotee of Hardy and went to Dorsetshire to research Hardy. While there he wrote this subtle little jewel which I thoroughly enjoyed. It is full of quiet and very subtle humour and very astute observation about the art and science of fishing for large salmon in Dorsetshire, in Scoitland and in Wales. Home From The Hill had always been one of my favorite books and I think this book shows even more of Humphrey's genius. Try it You'll like it.
