ORLANDO, Florida -- Hunting for guerillas, handling roadside bombs, crawling across the caves and crumbling towns of Afghanistan and Iraq -- all of that was just a start. Now, the Army is prepping its squad of robotic vehicles for a new set of assignments. And this time, they'll be carrying guns.

As early as March or April, 18 units of the Talon -- a model armed with automatic weapons -- are scheduled to report for duty in Iraq. Around the same time, the first prototypes of a new, unmanned ambulance should be ready for the Army to start testing. In a warren of hangar-sized hotel ballrooms in Orlando, military engineers this week showed off their next generation of robots, as they got the machines ready for the war zone.

Rockets, grenades and machine guns can all be carried on top of the 2-foot-6-inch Talon robots.

The same company also makes robots to vacuum your house automatically. But they kill you when you sleep.

If you could make a little remote-controlled droid that was so heavily armored that the enemy couldn't ever hurt it, then you know it would still backfire.

I can think of several things to do to it.

Attach a bomb to the undercarraige, for one, when it's looking in the other direction, and detonate it when it returns to base...

I liked when Extreme Machines had that bomb exploding machine that's basically a big wheel in front with spinning balls on chains banging away at the ground. Simple yet it fucking works. And huge.

they were trying to sell those things out of syncrude (in fort mcmurray) for a dollar. the only problem was that it was up to you to transport them out of the oilsands to where ever it was going.

it turns out that its cheaper to bury them in deep pits that are slated to be reforrested than to transport them anywhere so noone bought them.
