Such patience.
My patience with jesus freaks ran out long ago.

I think I was too tired to run away, and they had blocked my escape route. Also, I should add that the 12-hours of being chased by tornadoes included I hate fucking Kansas.

Don't want to anger those small-town jesus freaks either... People disappear every day, after all.

Heh.
I have a technique, that while dificult and time consuming to learn is pretty much 100% effective in situations like this. Know the bible better than they do. Nothing will chill a conversation with jesus freaks quicker than a manifestation of Biblical scholarship. Suggested topics: Did you know there are two creation narratives in Genesis? The story of Joseph, way better than the story of Jesus, don't you agree? How many days and nights did it rain? (it was not 40, btw) Why does Jesus call that poor Greek woman a dog when she touches him? and so on...
Ususally the conversation will self terminate after this point, especially if you seem eager to actually talk about this stuff.

So, are you going to accept Jesus as your lord and saviour?

My knowledge of the bible consists of that picture version written for kids that dentists always seemed to have sitting around when I was young and the parts of the old testament I happened to pay attention to while zoning out in saturday morning synagogue services in between stand up, sit down, stand up, sit down, ages and ages ago, before I got older and could put into practice the fact that I'd quit caring about god and religion at age 11.

I'm not a religious person, but I dig the Torah. It is an artifact of a vanished world, several vanished worlds, in fact. The new oxford standard with annotations absolutly rocks. Reading genesis, and I mean reading the whole thing, like you read a novel or a text book is a facinating voyage back in time. Not to mention the fact, that, like it or not, the bible has had more impact on our civilization than any other book- reading it close can give perspective on why we are so very fucked up.
If I can only take one book to my desert island it would be
Mobey Dick, but if I can take like fifty, the bible definitely comes along.

These are hard times for the catholic church. These days we have to 'reason' with people in order to convert them to our religion. Once upon a time, we just rolled through the lands of heathens and murdered those that would not believe.
Good times.

Loser, you are so right. It totally confuses the hell outta the christers when you can out-quote them, out-argue them doctrinally, and still don't buy that swill. But even that gets really boring.

How come when Harry Potter does magic it's which-craft
yet when Jesus does it it's a miracle?

Iowa was just yet another rolly-yellow-smelly-pig-shit state, didn't matter which direction I was driving.

I jack-off each time I drive through Iowa, particularly east of Des Moines. If your windshield ever gets splattered with "birdshit" while passing another car in this locale, it might not be "birdshit." Dip a finger in it and stick it up your coochie, I am genetically desirable.

One good thing about Jesus; he won't force Himself on anyone...We are all given a free choice. I am not a religious person but if I didn't have Jesus,I wouldn't have hope that I would see my son again someday...we can accept Him or reject Him but where will you be for all eternity? Contrary to what some may think...I never brought up salvation to my son...but He had a given his life to Jesus and was baptized when he was about 9 years of age...his journey here on earth was very short but I have Jared on video in sept 2003 taking communion in a church....it was his own free will. I know that he was changed in his heart and that's where I trust in God to do the rest...without Him I am nothing. No one will probably read this...has anyone read or heard about the Bible encoding?

response to the Harry Potter stuff....Jesus didn't wave a magic wand around; He healed people and by the way Jared had been healed of a tumor or leg calf perthese when he was around 3 years...he spoke of that in one of entries on here....the part about me not being there when the nurses held him down to give him a shot wasn't true; I think he had that mixed up with when he cut his head open as he fell playing and they had to hold him to numb and do stitches; they wouldn't let me stay in there..he was about 21/2 and the emergency room people wouldn't let me stay...

No, a religious person believes that if you go to church that's it. I always told my children this just because I sit in the garage does not make a car.

Comes across as pretty religious. That said, if your belief eases your greif, if it gives you strength and fortitude to go on in the face of your loss, good on it. For myself I feel no need or desire for such belief, and when it is presented as necessary (which you have not done, this time) I will most vehemently disagree.
I have heard of bible encoding, even read some very cursory examinations of the claims. Like the bible itself, it demands an uncritical acceptance on faith of certain predicates. To my mind, they do not stand up to examination.

About the 2 creation narratives...if you are talking about Genesis 1 okay; if you are speaking about when there was darkness on the earth...that one is when Satan was cast out of heaven; I used to be confused about where in the heck did dinosaurs come from....I can't quote scripture very well but that was during that period so Satan had and still has power here on earth....until God makes satan Jesus footstool...

Not everyone does believe and the Bible speaks plainly about that...not everyone will enter/receive the kingdom of heaven...it's your right to choose. The encoding could be that last bit of information God said would come toward the end of life of earth as we know it...
