OK, until recently I would have agreed with you about poodles, but then my mom got one, and it's a damn cool dog, with some telepathic abilities. Like, you look at it, and seconds later it brings you cold beer. OK, I've only seen that on the telly, but man, consider the possibilities.
And if you let the fur grow, it actually looks like a real dog.

My grandmother had a poodle when I was growing up, but not an overgroomed spoiled little beast, but a fat, friendly little white-furred dog.

It's not the breeding that makes them horrible animals, it's the owners.

I despise and loathe only one breed of dog more than a Toy Poodle......Cocker Spaniels with their weepy eyes. Standard Poodles who are all poofed up with names like "Bruce" or Peter" are hard to accept.

The major exception to the "Poodles Suck" rule is:

Standard poodles who have been allowed to be real dogs living outside and their hair has grown out. They are one of the most awesome intelligent animals ever placed on this earth. They are showing up more and more in hunting and in field trials. They are natural retrievers and make spectacular tireless bird dogs who are able to run and swim all day.

It's just guilt by association for the hunting poodles......next to border collies they are considered the 2nd smartest dog in the world, they are fast natural swimmers, love to retrieve, and dig dead birds quite alot. Thats the makings for a superb bird dog provided they arent gun shy...and thats a learned behavior.

They should just stop giving them those hair cuts and shaves for dog shows.
