Creativity

When do you find yourself at your most creative? Like, I mean, when you get those really good ideas that you don't get normally? I always get them while I'm having a shower.

That's weird.

All my best thinking happens in the shower as well. Strange.

And I am also legendary for taking REALLY long showers/baths.

I wonder if this is more than a coincidence.

Ive actually been meaning to make a thread similar to this...

I have a Creative writing class at my school and I am taking it right now.

One question that has been recently been brought up is, How do you teach creativity?

We are given assignments and told to write, its boring, tedious, and I don't feel at all creative...

I dont think you can.

to be creative is to find new solutions to existing problems. To do this you have to think "out of the box" ur sumthin'. I think what that means is that given set prameteres, how many solutions can you come up with?

the possiblities are endless. Literally.

I do think that there is a creative 'process', things you can do to help stimulate it. I also believe it's an evolutionary process as well (I notice this looking at my paintings thru the years).

Perhaps when they say 'teach' creativity, they mean teach people to use their own inherent tallents.

you can teach creativity, just as you can teach people how to think, exersices of the mind rather than academic ones.

As an Art instructor I can say that it really isn't a matter of teaching creativity as much as it is freeing it up. I taught the 'mechanics' of art, the way to basically use the materials involved in the medium.
Creativity is a very individual thing and I think that EVERYONE has their own special creative talents. Sometimes it is very difficult to get them out where they can be used.

i normally have the best ideas when i have nothing to write them down on, like on the subway. or, music wise , whenever i m not near a computer

I am most creative when it's 3am and I have to be up the next morning. Suddenly projects, ideas, materials and energy all come together. And I am smart/dumb enough to go with the creativity every time even though it makes for awful days at work.

After I've been in a really evil mood I often go outside and just look at the sky! The stars and clouds can be quite soothing and inspirational at the same time. Its times like that when I tend to have my more creative and inspired thoughts!

I don't think its possible to teach creativity, creativity is something one learns on their own.
