I probably didnt do as good a job as i should, i wrote it fast and was angry...
quote: Your emotional knee jerking law making efforts are shameful, or should be shameful to any real American. The Virginia laws concerning duis are unconstitutional and lack any form of logic.
Take my case for example. I was walking down the street with my friends after our designated driver got ran off the road and the van stuck in the ditch. We were no where near the van when the police officer came, he arrested me for "probable cause" because it was my van after everyone at the scene told him I was not driving. I spent the night in jail and had my license suspended before I even got a fair court hearing. That doesn't make any American sick is tragic and wholly sickening. In court it became clear I had not been driving but because I made an effort to get the van unstuck with the others, and was behind the wheel a, and I admitted that, it constitutes a dui...so Now I cant drive to do my charity work, I cant drive to buy my children milk, I cant bring my children to their doctors appointments and my family suffers from all the fines. You people have hurt my family when I have hurt no one. I have no criminal record, i was a constructive member of my community, I contributed to charities, your laws have hurt this society more than anything I have done.
Please use your brains, Please use logic, please cherish the constitution because emotional mobs like you people have always been prolific to the grossest crimes against humanity. And I know some of you have lost family, and for what ever reason you think this sort of thing is going to help, but it doesn't, and it makes people like me feel contempt for your cause. You've taken from my children for nothing, and even if you have lost a child due to dui it isn't justified, and you do no service to them or anyone else but yourself.
shame on all of you.
and p.s. Homicide is against the law, endangerment is against the law, reckless driving is against the law, hurting people physically is against the law, that's all the laws we need and the laws you push for only hurt people who did something very minor, you prevent nothing leave allowing people who haven't hurt others to live productive lives.

i agree with you (forbie) entirely. i mean, i still have to admit that technically you were breaking the law, but the law is kind of stupid and the cop is obviously a dick.

I tell you who got fucked, te guy who works at the window tinting place at the corner. he was in his drive way working on his sound system when a neighbor called the cops because of the noise (him testing his system) he was drunk and the keys in the ignition, and in his drive way. Dui, he spent the night in jail and had his license suspended before he got to court as well. Ill probably see him at asap.
I think the emotional knee jerk people have just given the police/city a way to make money and exert power.
Neither me nor this guy was a threat to anyone, we didnt hurt anyone or damage anything..just that jail was even a consequence for either of us is idiotic...but thats my political stance on victimless crimes coming through.

yeah, mine too. i don't like any law based on what might happen, i think. maybe gun control, but to be honest i don't really care about what's legal, i just think there should be a registry. as for alcohol, i think there should be breathalyzers in bars so you can know how drunk you are numerically, and additional penalties for damage and accidents caused while driving drunk, but not an across-the-board ban on drunk driving. i'm not for projecting hypothetical situations on people's lives and then putting them in jail for it.
i have fairly recently (well, less than a year ago) lost a friend to this, as well. for the record.

im sorry for your loss, a good friend of mine was crushed between two eighteen wheelers with his girlfriend and her little brother, i was also connected by marriage to a little boy who got hit crossing the street to get to his bus stop by a guy fiddling with his radio as his parents looked on, i do understand, even if the people driving weren’t drunk, am not unsympathetic or untouched to the same kind of loss just so you know. I’ve seen the grieving, and felt the loss myself, im not detached...we didn’t have dui to look at as a cause but it is the same type of loss, i think. Im sorry about your friend.

and on a side note, im sure that lawyers were right there with madd pushing this legislature, they made a pretty penny. I shelled out 2,000 bucks in the end for like 2 hours of these guy's time cause my career depends on me being able to drive. In the end i had to make the request for the restricted license on my own, so in the end i got a bunch of nothing from my lawyer, leave contempt from the court for not having one.

of course. i only added that because a lot of people seem to see personal pain as a reason to pass law, and i want to point out that reasoning should be above emotional response. grief shouldn't affect legislation.
and thanks. i'm okay, though. i'm sorry for your loss and the pain of your friends as well.
