Being able to "move" people is artistic. When you see a good salesperson, I mean a really good sales person, it's like watching an artist. Working in retail of any kind can drain a person's resources rather quickly and those who are not only equipped to deal with people, but do it well, have talent.
Selling is an art all of its own.

You absolutely sell something. It doesn't have to be in a wrapper to be sellable. You sell a service and more importantly, yourself. You have to be able to move people and help them with decisions. You have to gain a person's trust in a limited amount of time. People are making large purchases with their hard-earned money based on advice that you give them. Not just anyone can do this. "People skillz" are something you can't really teach. Some people are just naturally good at it. You would be one of them.
