Spray down your house with foam.
Then cut the lawn.
And fire up your baloon.

Wonder, remember all that flooding you and I had earlier this year? Now God is punishing us with fire. I think he's trying to tell us something. We've got one burning from Nevada in to Utah that's burned 400,000+ acres so far. We've had 3 communities evacuated due to three different fires. There's three big fires burning in the AZ Strip between here and the Grand Canyon they're not even talking about yet and letting burn.

Hell's coming. We're in trouble. (But it makes for a cool, freaky looking red sun.)

Caught a CNN report that implied that their efforts to start some rain (using fireworks) failed because the rain evaporated before it hit the fire, but it did manage to cause enough lightning to start 6 new fires. Don't know if I caught that right, though, wasn't really paying attention.

We haven't seen the sky here in about 2 weeks. It smells like a campground outside and the hospital is full of old people and asthmatics that can't breathe.

God's culling out the weak.

Last week we broke a 30 year record for rain and Orlando has gotten over 14.5" this month. There is a vine overtaking a shed behind our house who's leaves have grown to elephant ear size.

That should have been in the 'what is the weather like...' thread. Admins take note.

Big Al took the spawn to Pheonix yesterday to get away from the smoke. I just talked to her and it's about 114 where she is but the pools are fine. Some resort down there, South Point I think.
She is going to stay another night especially since they may be closing the freeway down south of here due to the fires burnng across the highway.
People are still wanting to fly so I am staying.
I just got a call from one of our big construction companies here, I know the owner, and he wanted to know if I would be willing to take my backhoe out north of the fire line if the blaze gets close to Camp Verde (24 miles from here). He wanted to know where it was so he could pick it upif needed.
I may be out there cutting fire breaks tomorrow. w00t!!!

Well, if you go be aware that your backhoe will not be covered by insurance for that use, and fire is a sneaky, nasty thing. Be careful.

As he put it, it won't be like we are yards away from the towering blaze but a few miles away and cutting a last ditch fireline. More like dirty dusty work as opposed to some ever so exciting Backflash heroic sort of thing.

Yeah, heard that one before. My elder brother was cutting a fireline with 5 other guys on the Ripplebrook fire in the early 70's. They were two ridges and 5 miles from the fire when the wind kicked up. The fire crowned, and in 18 minutes it covered that 5 miles. They had just enough time to push up two earth berms, drive the cat between them, and crawl under it.

Fire can move incredibly fast.
