I will be escorting 32 of our students to New Zealand for a 3 week homestay and study program. My primary responsibilities are to get them down there, hang around in case of emergency, and then get them back. I'm supposed to check in on them from time to time (probably poke my head in their classroom every other day or so). In the meantime, I'm free, so if anyone wants to get together, I'm game. Only rule is I have to stay within the Christchurch vicinity as per the afforementioned case of emergency.

There are three weekends during that period: Aug 26-28, Sept 2-4, and Sept 9-11. My family will be joining me during part of the trip, but that just means you get to meet them too.

Considering that I tend to propose pissups in places that no one can afford to get to, I understand if no one is available. But perhaps a few of the kiwis and maybe some Aussies might make it over. And who knows if mugtoe is itching for an extra passport stamp.

I have a family member on staff at the uni in Christchurch, Nute. If you'd like, I'll e-mail him your info and see if he might be able to arrange some tours of the area. He's been there 3 years now, and has applied for landed immigrant status in NZ, too his mother's dismay.

I've got a few drinking buddies in Christchurch, but they're all about 80 years old or more.

Hyde Park (in the center) has some pretty photogenic trees in it and I guess you can go skiing without having to drive too far.
