Post Anybody got Answers?

So I am sitting here under the pale glow of my PC monitor, surfing aimlessly through forum after forum.
Skipped class again today... trying to figure out why.

When I first started school to become a medic, I was incredibly motivated for multiple reasons. I wanted to be a hero. I wanted excitement. But above all, I wanted to help people.

Now that I have been riding on trucks for about two years, I find myself becoming more and more disenchanted with the whole idea. Not because of what I see out there on the road, not because of the patients we loose...
It is something deeper than that.

I can't put my finger on it, but I don't want to be here anymore. 4 months from graduation is a hell of a time to discover that you may have picked the wrong major, so why the hell did it happen to me?

Simplicity is all that I want. I want a simple 40 hour a week job, a simple little house, a simple little car, a simple little life free of Patient Care Reports, Thrombolytic Screening Forms, Quality Assurance Audits, Quick Release Forms, and Late Night Stand-bys...

I want a simple life, with a simply beautiful person, and thats all I want.

So what do you do? Do you lay down your cards and walk away? Forget these two years, and apply at the local McDonalds? Or do you keep giving it your maybe 40% maximum, dreading every day you have to work, and wondering for the rest of your life if you what would have been if you had gone the other direction?

I am too young to have to think about this shit...

-Mike

the first question you have to ask yourself is: do you have any other interests, hobbies, talents, etc, that you could do for a living?

You've made a long investment in something. So stick with it for a while. You just might be temporarily depressed and that's not the best time to make a big decision like this. You can always do what you do part-time and you'd end up making as much as you would at another less stressful job. I suspect, anyway, that if you did change jobs, you'd be unsatisfied there, too. What you have right now goes deeper than your job. So stick with what you've got. At least for now. Just my 2 fucking cents.

Damn, RM. Sounds familiar. I'm in something of the same boat. Check my front page update.

I'm in college (bio major/predental) and I'm seriously giving consideration to doing graphics instead. Much simpler, less schooling, and it's something I enjoy. Check out the suppository if you want to see others' reactions to my situation..

I say do what you want to do, but don't close those doors behind you. If you have something lined up that you'd enjoy more than what you've got now, go for it. Otherwise, stick with what you've got and keep your eyes open for something you'll enjoy more.

But then, what do I know?

Wow. For a guy whose name is "Go Fuck Yourself" he gives good advice. Then again he's giving advice to a guy named "Ritual Masturbator"....what a fuckin place.

RM. I would say stick it out. You have chosen a tough profession, but it is one of the VERY few left that mean something. The fifth proffesion, the protector.

All my life I wanted to be a doctor. When push came to shove in med school I bailed because of (insert excuse here-politics, competition, long hours ect). Now years later not a day goes by that I don't wish I had stuck it out. I had about three years to go and then rez. I could probably have made it. Somethings in my life would be better, some worse. My life is very simple. But it also contains a very big whole wrapped in a question I'll never be able to answer. What if, RM?

Jobs like yours are tough, especially after the first couple of years and the veneer of idealism is worn a little thin. Things like paper work, politics, long hours and blood protocols can do that. But in time, I think you will begin to see the rewards. You are doing good. Whether it is apparent or not.

Keep your ears and your options open and attempt to improve and upgrade your training constantly. Never stop learning and listening. There are other options down the same road.
I work on SAR with ex para's and orderlies who just kept working. Now they do what they love. They put in thier time. Hard sometimes for guys of our generation to see.

There is teaching, Situational rescue, relief work and many other alternatives for guys with your education and a few years training.

From what little I know of you I know this; You are looking to do something that means something, to do good(pardon the cliche). Don't give up. Keep at it. Work hard. Never ask, What if?

That's my dimes' worth. Good luck buddy.

Yes, Harlequinn. You have dazzled me with your complexity thus far. Keep up the good work.

One hint; try not to be ordinary. It tires quickly.

harleyquinn:

i, for one, will take that as a compliment. so sorry we don't live up to some set of standards that you seem to have set for us. disappointed in the community here? then leave. do you actually think the things you have to say are important to us? just because we respond doesn't mean that you've had some tremendous impact. you can type an insult. woohoo. so do all the other brain dead internet spawn that wander in here from the SPF. there are two options for you:

1. you can stay here, and settle down into the community. you can make friends, and flame enemies, just like the rest of us. hell, i have NO friends here, and they still let me stick around. but you're going to have to begrudge a little respect for these people. don't pick a fight with these people. you don't know them yet. there are poets here that can make you weep for your past regrets. there are artists that can paint your soul. and there are thinkers here that can open your mind to realms you've never seen before.

or...

2. stick around, and flame all you want. we won't ban you. hell, i'll be the first to flame you, if i'm bored. you'll get all that negative attention that you're obviously craving. but...you'll always be an outsider, looking in. sure, you'll get the best of some of us. you'll insult us, piss us off, make people cry. you'll have established yourself as one of the most annoying people here, maybe even more annoying than tack. but... maybe not now, but somewhere down the line, there will be a post from redguard that will stir you to comment, to make a friendly gesture. but your pride will stop you, for fear of being ridiculed and rebuked. once you cross the line, once you spit on the hand of friendship, will it ever be offered again?

you're right. we are simple people. stay as a friend, or forever watch from without, as an enemy. it's a simple choice.

Am i to believe you speak on behalf of this entire forum? I think you have a slightly overinflated sense of ego, you bombastic windbag.

Oh, and by the way. I do realize that you are a 'simple person,' that's why I've been trying to use monosyllabic words accompanied by intermittent grunts and gestures.
