Maybe you cried cause it was your friends dad,but then maybe you saw a little of yourself there in that casket.
I believe in a heaven cause even though facts say otherwise, strange things happen in this world that warrant the possibility of a happy afterlife.
I talk to my wife's dad at his gravesite sometimes and I never met him.
She was only 7 when he died.

I am guilty of laughing at a funeral, showing up drunk for one, ranaway from one and walked 86 miles to get to one. I think it depends on the impact of their life on us,(even thru thier children), is proportionate to how we react to their loss.

Sometimes, I believe in heaven too.

Don't cry for the loss of a great man, rejoice in the part of him that he left behind. Your friend.

Godspeed.

I may have missed something, but what's so weird and wrong about crying? People can even cry over fictious stories, why shouldn't you cry over real people?
Why shouldn't you believe in heaven for that matter? Go ahead and believe, it's no one's loss.

It seems you're estranged from quite a normal feeling. But I don't think that's abnormal...

*cries*

Americans don't cry, Coincidence. Unless we're told to.

Seriously, though -- I remember bawling my eyes out at a funeral for someone I didn't know. It was mostly because my friends were so devastated -- I don't generally cry while reading books or watching films, no matter how affecting -- but seeing those I love crying? Whooboy. It's natural.

The hard trick is believing without someone having to die first.
Also, a firm belief in heaven ought to make death a happy occasion. That's where the difference between hope and belief pops up.

Nah.

You cry for the dead for the same reason you cry whenever you miss someone...you love them but you can't express it. So it stays bottled up in you. Love with no outlet is destructive--like fire without a purpose.

Cue Johnny Cash.

I sense a lack of conviction in people mourning the dead.

What is mourning but missing someone?

That, and/or feeling your own mortality...or just commiserating with others of your kind?

Yes yes, it's all very good. I shan't take these pleasures from you, sweet child.

The soul yearns for communion.

I reiterate; Men shouldn't cry except for a single tear down a grime-covered face for fallen comrades at the end of a hard-fought war, and then only if you won.

Sorry that the comments may have seemed uncaring...the reason he cried is because he is a genuine human being...compassionate and caring for the loss to his friends' father. It's a reality and I continue to experience that sense of loss that can never be replaced. A good read to maybe help is the book 90 Minutes in Heaven...may His presence bring you peace.

i lost a good friend a few years ago, he was eaten alive by cancer. first kidneys and then it spread to his lungs, liver and brain. he spent the last few weeks of his life in agony. when he finaly died i saw nothing sad about it, nor did i find any reason to cry in his funeral. if anything i was just glad that he wasn't suffering anymore.

this means im better then you are

Doesn't look like there's much chance of winning a war right now, anyhow.
