Smug is going to visit me on December 3rd. I have a 1-bedroom apartment 4 blocks from Downtown state college.

As some may know, State college is a drinking town with a football problem. This means that there should be ample opportunity to get a drink and no problems in crawling home once the world starts spinning.

I have no visitor parking available, but there is a parking garage 2-3 blocks from my house, and a free parking lot a couple of miles away, the latter courtesy of the evil empire aka wal-mart.

I have two spare airbeds (smug has dibs on one of them) and a thick comfy carpet ready to be festooned with asylumnites toting sleeping pads and sleeping bags.

There are a couple of six-pack shops between my place and downtown, and they are open late. There is also a wine/booze store 10 minutes from my house going in the opposite direction.

I don't have any drugs, and I don't intend to remedy that situation, by my own hand or those of any potential guests.

oh, and wireless broadband for all, should you feel like posting in mid-pissup.

the entire weekend is up for grabs.

There are, indeed, plentiful bars, as I recall (and you can smoke in them).

Paint says he's in. Dmoon has a gig on Friday 2nd, but I don't see why he can't drive up on Saturday. I'll get there lateish on Friday.

I checked the Nittany Lions football schedule and their already finished for the semester by then, which will mean that the town won't be packed full of football fans.

State College could be thought of as the middle of nowhere, but really, it could also be thought of as the Middle of everywhere. Plenty of people could drive there. ALthough if it's just me, Mudded and (if we can rely on him) Brad, that's fine too.

Smoking is allowed almost everywhere (except in university buildings and several restaurants) but I must warn people that the bars close early, at 2:30 am.... so we should build a booze/beer cache at my place to be safe.

I'll make sure to have a couple of cases of beer handy. I'd buy a keg, but they are too messy for a place that has nothing but carpet (even in the bathroom).

people living in or near DC, NYC, Philly and Pittsburgh should really consider showing up... a four hour drive, eh?

NYC to state college is tedious by greyhound (14 hours), so if people want to go by bus from NYC they should get a ticket to Milesburg, PA. (6 hours by bus) It is only half an hour from here by car, and I'm sure we can arrange a pickup excursion somehow.

I believe so, yes.

The train that goes from philly to harrisburg sometimes continues on to Lewistown, PA which is about 40 minutes south of here by car.

I do so wish I could attend. Alas, my wife would look poorly upon my abandoning the wee ones and stealing the car for a multi-day drive towards drunken debauchery.

The only major annoyance is parking, really. I think the parking garage is 12 bucks for 24 hours, if the cars need to be in the vicinity of my place.

Street parking near where I live will get you towed within a couple of hours, I'm afraid (it is a permit-or very short term parking zone only).

No, not at all.

The one I am talking about is on Beaver and S. Burrowes. I live 3.5 blocks south and one block east of that.

The University has more income than it knows what to do with, so it erects buildings. The state college municipality follows suit. this place was a gigantic construction site during the summer... it still is, to some extent.
