Hello,

Last month I used NERO for the first time to encode a home movie of my son's first live band session. The plan was that I'd be able to squash the giant video file (1.2GB) into a more manageable AVI...which I did...however the volume on the AVI is so low that it's almost inaudible unless I crank the PC volume up all the way.

So, here's the thing: Is there a way of increasing the volume level on the AVI without recoding the whole thing from scratch? I mean, is there a program or something that could do this? I've recoded / worked with the NERO volume/gain control as much as I could and it still doesn't seem to make much of a difference.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You could artifically boost the volume of the audio track using VirtuaDub, but I'm guessing Nero normalized the track for you and you've lost a fair amount of information so boosting it will probably sound less than ideal.

I think you're right, macker. I'm going to try VirtuaDub. I'm sure that Nero clipped some data, but even with the audio loss it'll be better to hear anything at all than...well...near silence.

And dogcow, I hadn't thought about the possibility of the AC3 thing, but after I examined the files with Vegas it turns out that they're just straight 2-channel stereo (with the levels almost non-existent, of course).
