It's good that you were resilient and strong enough not to let the circumstances break you.
My theory about drink is that men do it to compensate for the hours of tedium associated with their work. If their heart isn't in it, they feel their precious time is being stolen-raped, in a sense- and the excesses of alcohol give them back an illusion of mental freedom.

Better than trying to be civil in your poetry thread...

You must have been joking, right?

Lets admit it shall we? You were a cheating whore and a fat ugly thing who couldn’t support her husband when he needed you. How sad that you come here to this good and righteous place to justify your wickedness. I hope your children blame you for driving daddy to drink.

Thought Az had been confirmed to be male, not that that would make any difference for Dacarlo.

You're certainly a competent writer, no doubt. But I couldn't shake the feeling that I was reading fiction.

I expected this.

This was a surprise. Were I to make it up, I would definitely make myself the longsuffering, stoic wife, who remained faithful; my life would have been a bit more creative. But, I don't mind. You think what you think. You can't help it any more than I can.

I have to thank the kind, along with the asshole and the skeptics. I am getting something really valuable from each of you. Azrael. Thank you. The antagonism made me have a small wave of self-support. It was quite helpful.

My theory about drink is that men do it to compensate for the hours of tedium associated with their work. If their heart isn't in it, they feel their precious time is being stolen-raped, in a sense- and the excesses of alcohol give them back an illusion of mental freedom.
I thought I'd tell you about this. After my affair, he made several attempts at sobriety, and the one that was the most successful involved therapy. He discovered he drank to block out things that happened to him. His mother seemed to be at the root of everything--stuff she did and said when he was little. She sort of favored his siblings to extremes--and made a point of letting him know it was for his benefit. She left him at home without explanation, and took his brother and sister shopping. She packed him off during summers to tend to her psychotic, drug addicted mother. He thought she abused him, but he wasn't sure. Anyway, the therapist told him to cut contact with her.
He was also raped by the housekeeper's daughter as a young child. He never told me this. I read it in his medical record when we were applying for Social Security Disability.
When he drank heavily, those images didn't plague him in his sleep.
Neither one of us was aware of this as being connected to his drinking.
And, this was just his reality. Whay you said could apply to plenty of people, I'm sure.
I appreciated your support.

That theory sucks.
It doesn't apply to everyone, but many people who drink/use habitually rather than recreationally do so because they have yet to find/know themselves. They are basically nihilists like you, with no strong inner foundation. If your life is like a leaf being blown about by the wind, you might as well enjoy the ride. Either that or they just hate themselves for not having a talent (and are envious of others).
