Made another jump

I switched from CentOS to Ubuntu (well, Kubuntu, with KDE instead of Gnome).

CentOS is a good distro but is not really meant for people just making the transition from win32, like me. After trying for a couple of weeks on and off to get CentOS to do things like...play MP3s...burn CDs...and so forth (basic home desktop shit) I said fuck it and switch to Ubuntu, which is basically Linux with training wheels.

The Adept package manager is nice. I don't really care for having to use sudo every time I want to do anything, but there are apparently some workarounds for this.

I tried again this weekend to get the dual boot working. No joy. Looks like I'm stuck with Linux on this old comp...oh well.

Thanks again for your help, people who helped me. I'll probably be calling on you again.

you can do: "sudo -s" (i think it was -s, check man to be sure) and the root privileged will stick until you close the terminal window

Or just "sudo bash" works.

Or, assuming Ubuntu is like most distributions with restricted su privileges, just adding your normal user to the wheel group should allow you to su to root permanently("usermod -g wheel -a <username>" I think).
