does XP home misjudge processor speed?
My roommate just bought a Compaq Presario SR1710NX from some guy on craigslist. It came pre-loaded with XP Home. The ad specifies that it's a 2ghz box with 256m of RAM. However, when I took a look at the "My Computer" properties, it said the box was running at 994mhz with 224 megs of RAM.
Is this an artifact of XP Home, or should I tell him to go and kick the seller's ass?

the misjudgment of your memory is most likey due to onboard video memory sharing.
the processor, however, with new amd processors on older motherboards the bios needs to be updated. I had this problem with an amd 64 that was showing 1.2 ghz, after I updated the bios is correctly showed 2.0 ghz.

If there is onboard video, it will show less memory (at least, win2k certainly does). No idea about the processor speed thing, though.
