I'm running XP Pro.

I hate icons on my desktop so I deleted all of them and edited the registry to remove the Recycle Bin.

Now the background image dissapeared.

It comes back if I put an icon on the desktop, but I don't want a fucking icon there.

I am running XP Pro so I don't have active desktop.

Put recycle bin back, download the MS powertoy tweakUI, use that to clear the desktop.

well i put it back, and the desktop wallpaper came back, then I downloaded microsofts tweakui and removed it with that. well when I did that my background dissapeared again. any suggestions?

the registry edit I made was a tip off of the Microsoft website. Additionally I was able to put the Recycle Bin back because I did back up the registry. I just restored it. So now that we throw stupidity out the window, what is the real reason why I can't have my desktop without icons.

Right click desktop go to 'arrange icons by' and uncheck show desktop icons.
