My projects

I have gotten ok enough with Linux to where I can manage a Kubuntu and a CentOS box. My desktop is a dual boot (about to be tri-boot once I start messing around with OpenDarwin) Kubuntu / XP Pro box (XP is around strictly for gaming). Also under this desk is my old dell 866, which is being used as a fileserver. My roommates and I are all going to chip in and get a couple of 500 gig drives for storing MP3s and whatnot.

My next project, then, is MythTV, so I can record all the shows I miss because I am either at work, going to bed early, or doing something else.

After that, I want to try to create an "XBOX Media Center," which is apparently fairly easy. The XBOX is going to actually play the movies recorded by MythTV (on the desktop box) which will be stored on the fileserver.

And of course I am perpetually playing around with various pen tools and with snort, and learning how to administer my network, learning topics as I need to.

What are you all working on?

I am beginning to look into music recording on my tablet laptop.

I am getting this next time I get a paycheck, and I also need to get me a piezo pickup for my didgeridoo.

Software-wise the Emu 1616m comes with a shit-ton of stuff, so i basically just need some samples to smarten up what will otherwise be a very minimalist setup.

Myself:
Didgeridoo
bass guitars and acoustic upright
81 string zither
Acoustic guitar
mouth harp
various percussion

My beloved:
Electric and acoustic violins
mouth harp
harmonica

Most of the stuff we will be making will be nordic roots acoustic/ambient, but I plan horse around with some funeral doom and dark industrial as well. I haven't used the subwoofer since my death metal beginnings in highschool.

Should be good fun (and freely downloadable, should anything remotely ear-worthy emerge from it)

Cheers

I'm trying to write modeling software to project changes in the genetics of a population of wizards and muggles based on breeding preferences, to see what the consequences of different genetic and social models would have on the wizarding world.

The hermione actress is of age, I think. Although I don't see why you'd want to bang a 16 year old (or whatever she is).

here is a link to an emu forum. RME cards are your best bet as far as stability goes. you won't get the fancy emu software sampler/sample library but there are plenty of other samplers around.

It's a big xsd file that I have to conform to. It's easier to generate classes with xsd.exe or xsdObjectGen and tinker with them (well, it'd be easier to generate a dataset with xsd.exe, but xsd.exe doesn't like complexTypes that contain themselves). I wrote classes myself, before, to fulfill what I was being asked to do (and used it to get the web app code to work), but the extensibility that comes from the full schema might be useful in the future.

I sorted it out, pretty much, anyhow.

Although, frankly, its use of arrays of objects (as in object[]) for xs:choice is irritating. Not that I'm sure that there's a better way.

If you used perl you wouldn't have any of these problems.

Except that I'd become a moral degenerate.

Before long, I'd be a vector for the Open Source Virus, and it'd be downhill from there.

Perl isn't open source, it's under the Artistic License. So, at worse, you'd be a vector for liberal faggotry and bad poetry.

Everyone knows that it's only a short hop from perl to Open Source. Perl is the anal sex with hairy strangers in public toilets to the AIDS of Open Source.

I'm currently really getting into CubaseSX and have found some very decent VST modules on the web.

Pro53 Synth
Hammond B4
PPG Wave Synth

The recording quality is as good as want it to get in the Cubase SX, you can do Surround Sound 5.1 encofding wich is pretty cool to me. I'm basically laying down some Lush Synth String backgrounds and then adding guitar and bass tracks on top of that.

The end product sounds spectacular. The Audio mixdown will do up to 320 bit MP3 encoding.
