oops

i've been friggin' around trying to fix a friends computer. I had taken out the card and didn't lock it down before I turned on the power. I smelt burnt rubber and flipped it off.

Antway, my question is this. If it burnt inside the comp, like in the pic, what now? Is the computer no good or if I bought a new card would it work ok?

I;m guessing the comp is fuxored but want to make sure first.

Those black slots are memory slots T.......the beauty of newer computers is that some of them don't require that the slots be filled in any specific order. Lets call the memory slot you burned "Slot 0" and from left to right the others would be "Slot 1" and "Slot 2". If you had another piece of memory that was not possibly burned you could try to put it in "Slot 1 or 2" and see if it would work. See if the computer would turn on and post (power on self test) you know when it turns on and starts doing things and beeps and stuff.....thats called a "post" if it does it successfuly.

Hell, I'd even try the memory card that was in the burned slot and see if it would work in Slot "1" or "2" you might get lucky and the memory is still good and just the plastic of the slot burned a little.

Take a good look at the stick of memory (memory card) and make sure there's no scorched plastic on it and if there is clean it up a little (scrape it off) and try it.

Good Luck

but...how to fix. slapping it isn't workin.

I tried it in the first slot and it wouldn't even read just non stop beep. just a beep in the second slot, it will read it til cdrom then stop. no noise.

from the picture, it looks like your mainboard was burned as well and not just the memory slot. if that's the case you'll need the get a new one.
