Bush's Best Moment As President?
Funny:
quote:
BERLIN (Reuters) - President Bush told a German newspaper his best moment in more than five years in office was catching a big perch in his own lake.
"You know, I've experienced many great moments and it's hard to name the best," Bush told weekly Bild am Sonntag when asked about his high point since becoming president in January 2001.
"I would say the best moment of all was when I caught a 7.5 pound perch in my lake," he told the newspaper in an interview published on Sunday.
Bush said the worst moment was September 11.
Funnier:
quote:
The only problem is that the world's record for the largest freshwater perch caught is 4 pounds 3 ounces.
So Bush either doubled the world record of the largest perch ever recorded, and didn't report it, or he's a liar.

Different sorts of perch? There have been perch bigger than 4 lb 3oz caught in the UK (the record is 5 lb+, as I recall, although it's not the same sort of freshwater perch that you have here).

Also, it does seem plausible that the president said 'bass' and it was misreported. If he's any sort of fisherman, he'd know how big each fish he's going for is likely to get, and he wouldn't make a simple mistake like claiming a record.

Nope. Not unless it was a Nile perch.
Biggest perch is actually a little bigger than 4 lb 3 0z, which is the record for yellow. For white, the record is 4 lb 12 oz (recorded in 1949).

White House official transcript was changed to "large mouth bass" on the question this afternoon.

British record perch is 5lb 9oz, incidentally. So pushing 6 pounds, still not close to the 7+lbs.

New Jersey. It must have been mutated.

Just to add a little perspective.
Best moment of Presidency quotes: Carter, Clinton
How did President Carter answer the question?
"I think the best time was probably dealing with the Middle East issue at Camp David," he said, "and even better I think was the peace treaty that came along six months later. I made a very difficult decision over the almost unanimous opposition of my cabinet and my staff to take the initiative and to go to Egypt and to go to Israel to try to get Begin and Sadat to agree on a peace treaty. And when they did sign-both of them signed the agreement-I guess that was probably my best moment."
http://www.americanpresident.org/hi...o.article.shtml
How did President Clinton answer the question?
JIM LEHRER: As we sit here right now, Mr. President, is this the best moment of your presidency?
PRESIDENT CLINTON: Oh, no, I won't say that. I don't know. So many things have happened here at home that have been important to me; passing economic plan, passing the Brady Bill and assault weapons ban, so many things have happened internationally, the role that I was fortunate to be able to play in the peace process in the Middle East and in Northern Ireland, but this could have the biggest long-term positive consequences if we do it right. But frankly, I hadn't, you know -- Sometimes people say "do you feel vindicated?" The answer is no. I think America has been vindicated. I think what we stand for has been vindicated. But keep in mind that there have been times in the past where people win a conflict and then squander the peace. So a lot of our work is still ahead of us. We've gotta get the people home, get the land mines up, work out the details of who is involved in the peacekeeping mission. We have to get this -- We've got to organize police forces and civil government for the Kosovars. And then the really big thing over the long-run, our European friends want to take the lead in this but we ought to help them, we've got to get the World Bank and all these other people involved in a development plan for the Balkans that involves not just Kosovo, but Macedonia, Albania, Bulgaria, Romania, and I hope someday Serbia if they have a government that respects freedom and democracy and human rights. So that these people have something pulling them together instead of these ancient ethnic troubles pulling them apart.
Now if we get all that done, it might be perhaps the most satisfying thing because it might prove that people can lay down their hatreds of people who are different. You know, I basically think free people will figure out a way to make the most of their lives and work out their problems if they can get the rules of engagement right. That's why I gave somewhat of an extended answer to what you said about the Republicans. Because, I think, you know, differences are good. Nobody's got the whole truth. But you gotta get the rules of engagement right. And I think what we did in Kosovo was profoundly important.

His best moment hasn't come yet. It should occur on December 31, 2008 when he hauls his sorry ass out of the White House.
Or perhaps before if they can actually pin some crimes on him and make them stick.

Not meaning to be critical, Rokkr, but damn!
How old did you say you are? By my reckoning you have had the opportunity to vote in at least 7 presidential elections, possibly 8, beginning with Nixon. You have seen the hoopla regarding inaugurations after every one of them. Yet you say the above.
The next president of the United States (assuming there is one) will be inaugurated at noon, Jan 20th, 2009. Bushie baby will be in office until the next political rapist assumes office by taking the oath, which he/she will promptly begin breaking.

What is that to suggest?
Castro wins in the end?

No suggestion at all. We have not inaugurated a legitimately elected president in this country since 1997. Why would we expect the trend to change?
Not too mention, there is a fair bit of time between now and then. Anything can happen. Hell, maybe Georgie-poeorgie is right, and christ will return.

Voted. Contributed time and money to political causes. Written hundreds of letters to elected officials.
What have you done, in your political arena?

There are no eskimos native to Iceland. Only inbred Norse fools whose ancestors fell for a hell of a con job.

I'm bad with dates Simon, all I ever recall is the new president taking office in January. Whatever the actual dates, it's of no import for me.
And yes, I've voted in every presidential election since 1972, when I voted for George McGovern.

I'm guessing that you voted for two presidents who actually took office in that time.

At one point Iceland and Greenland were both parts of the Kingdom of Denmark, and Greenland is inhabitited mostly by Inuit and F-16s; but now I'm being pedantic.
