For some reason, when I'm on Google and I'm typing something in the search field, if I hit ' it opens the find bar instead of putting a ' in the search. Not that it's absolutely necessary since google ignores it anyway, but it's annoying as fuck.

Any idea why it suddenly started doing that, or how to fix it? I know ' is a hotkey for the find bar, but it's never done it in fields before...

about :config, change accessibility.typeaheadfind.autostart to false.

Thanks. That didn't do it, since the ' key is supposed to start the find bar, just not in a text box. Apparently it just wasn't recognizing Google's search field as a text box or something. Doesn't matter, though. I turned it on, it still did it, so I turned it back off, and it appears to be fixed.

Indeed it does, but it hates me the least of any browser I've used.

I use firefox, and google as my homepage, but I have no idea what the ' key is.

It's the key you use to type the '. On most (American) keyboards, right next to the enter key.

Try hitting it on a webpage when no text boxes are selected. It should bring up the find box (though I think it only searches links when you use the ' instead of /).
