So, I've just started my summer job working as a support technician at a phone company here in Sweden.

It's all going well but... I have a problem.

The problem comes when I try to support a foreign person, for example, we have these 24 hour access codes for wireless internet that we can give out as good will or if my company screws up. The thing is an access code usually looks like this; aK2rfgH4 and so on.

Now .. when I'm speaking to someone from London or perhaps an american business man calling from a hotell in dire need of this card I want to sound proper when I'm spelling this out and of course get it right the first time.

I haven't begun browsing the internet for an answer, instead I thought I should just ask you guys first.

Here, and I'm thinking you have a similar system, we use the following:

A - Adam, B - Bertil, C- Cesar ..and so on.

Help ... please.

Oh and if you have any other advice to share, don't hesitate.

LF the code is used so that the people that has it can GET ON THE INTERNET. If I would tell them I'm mailing the code when they're calling me telling me their internet connection isn't working ... what do you think they'd say?

They shouldn't be calling you then. They should E-Mail you. It's because even when you tell them the Alpha words to the letters,you also have to tell them small or large letters,and that is already complicated. If they E-MAIL you then you can E-MAIL them the code where all they have to do then is COPY and PASTE.

LF to email someone you have to have internet, yes? ... When they call me they're asking for something called Homerun, it's an internet access supplier for people with wireless internet. When they call me they want their internet to work. Had it been working, they wouldn't be calling me.

What is really fun is to give them the code, then have them read it back to you and say, "That's not quite right" then repeat the code and give them a completely different one. See how many times you can do that before they go berserk.

Phonetic alphabet works well though I never use it, which is weird because I'm supposed to at work. I usually just make stuff up or mumble unintelligibly. Dogcow probably has the most fun suggestion, though not the most professional. My advice is to hunt down and kill L_F, then we can all rest peacefully.
