boogie board won't boogie

When I was a kid I loved riding the waves on rafts and boogie boards. So I bought a boogie board and went to the beach yesterday. The waves were pretty good, the tide was coming in but the waves would just crash through me and keep going rather than carrying me.I'm not fat either.

Do I need a more buoyant boogie board, would that solve the problem? The boogie board I bought is kind of small, but it had a cool dragon on it.I don't get it.

Like this. It's short, but quite danceable.

You're from South Carolina. Atlantic waves suck. Go to the West Coast.

Bend the front down some as the wave comes up behind you, and start paddle kicking forward.

And yes, east coast waves suck.

Betcha didn't know a North Idaho boy could surf, huh? I learned when I lived in San Diego back in the mid 90's. I bought that monster at a yard sale and haven't been back to the coast since. Well I have, but Seattle isn't prime surfage and the last time I was in Santa Cruz, it was less than 24 hours. I have surfed behind a boat, but that's not quite the same.

What's the story with the splint? Did you fall off that longboard?

Oh, and Atlantic waves suck some major major ass. I'll be at the famous Surf City (Huntington Beach) this weekend--I won't go in that water, though...it's like swimming in a toilet bowl. I'll probably do some spongeboarding further south, though...Newport Beach.

Too much flex in the board, laying too far back or not paddling in fast enough would be my guess. Try using a pair of fins to help give you a bit more speed would be the cheapest solution, a more costly one would be to buy a better board, the ones made of high density EVA with a bottom-ply of PVC are good and not too expensive.

Why I won't go in the ocean. I saw this on the Discovery Channel. This thing is the size of a fingernail. If stung you will die.

It's the dragon. It put a bigtime wammy on your ass. You need to carve a pentagram in it with a butcher's knife, toss some lamb's blood on it and burn it.

Then go get a bigger boogie board. (Swim fins will change your life, btw.)

Just trade it in for one of these, then you won't have to worry which coast you're on.

LF, I think that's a box jelly, and they're only found in Australia (if I remember correctly). I wouldn't go near Australian oceans in general, though, between those, the saltwater crocodiles, blue-ringed octopus, and great white sharks.

You need to paddle before the wave picks you up. It takes a little bit of work.
And the Atlantic is much better than the Gulf or the Mediterranean.

I was stung by a jellyfish on Prom Night. You need to piss on the wound.
It really turns a girl on.
