No, it's Hebrew numerology. The Beast was an allegorical representation of Nero (who basically committed genocide against Christians and Jews not too long before Reveleations was written). 666 are the Hebrew consonants that spelled out "Nero Caesar" in the Greek form (remembering that in Hebrew, letters do double duty for numbers (i.e. numbers aren't separate characters), so spelling "Nero Caesar" also spells "666"). 616 is the Hebrew for the Latin version.

In Revelations, the Beast--though a literal beast--wasn't Satan (he was called by Satan), he represented emporer-worship.

Admittedly, there is still about 2 hours left, but I made it through the day without incident. I do work at a Christian institution though, and they are Christian enough to be on guard against the threats to their faith posed by The DaVinci Code, which probably had some sort of umbrella effect.
