it's bleak. if you persist in clinging to the murky path you're on.
excuse me Fats, it's my inbred reactionary program: anybody commands "DON'T" on a reasonable risk, i have to do it.
(may i call you Fats?)

Baby, I love it when you heckle me so you can call me anything you wish. And when I command DON'T I really mean DO. Remember, I'm Iffy. My needs and wishes are on a continual flux.

Oh, what a trite bit of crap.
First define "terrorist". By my operating definition, which is someone who inspires terror in others by word or deed, Jesus Christ was a terrorist.

There are various elements of consciousness in the natural world, enough to qualify as other beings, who we terrorize with our presence. Since they are millions of years older than human civilization, the latter fits the analogy of a terrorist act.

Not true at all. My operational definition is perfectly adequate.

The exception that proves the rule. It isn't definable in a way that provides a working definition that everyone can use to actually classify an action or actor as terrorism or a terrorist. Terrorism is only definable with idiosyncratic definitions that serve the interests of those using the definition. They typically are not logically consistent and include arbitrary distinctions that disqualify particular actions or actors from inclusion. While "good" definitions such as yours exist, they are universally rejected precisely because they are too broad. "It's terrorism when they do it to you" is pretty much what most definitions boil down to.
Terrorism (as a concept in popular employ) is in the eye of the beholder and cannot be objectively defined or identified without alienating all the beholders (ie victims). I'm working on a book to this effect that will show the worthlessness of the concept of terrorism, and the response to the book will indicate exactly how uninterested everyone is in acknowledging this.
I'm not saying your definition isn't good (it's etymologically the best, arguably, although you probably should clarify whether the effect is intentional or not. But even that has a host of complications, such as what if terror is intended but fails to materialize. And how many people have to be terrorized for it to count? All of them? Just one? Bin Laden is not a terrorist to me, by your definition, but he obviously is to many frightened Americans. Damn, time to end this parenthetical aside.). But the concept in general is used to demonize a group more often than it is used to describe or explain a group's/ individual's behavior. Because of this, I think the concept is trash and should be abandoned completely. What the hell does it matter what we call it, really? I think the shit that OBL and GWB is wrong and bad and makes the world a worse place and therefore wish to have them stop. I don't care if you want to call them terrorists or warmongers or deluded religious nutsuckers.

No quarrel with anything you said above, Nute. You finish that book, I'd like to read it.
"Terrorism" is simply a label. Labels identify (sometimes), but rarely describe, Words like terrorism, terrorist, revolutionary, freedom-fighter, hell, Republican, Democrat, Libertarian; all are void of meaning sans contextual clues.
I have, in the past, terrified a few people - by my own definition I was at those times/places a "terrorist". Which is exactly why I use the term as I do.

In plums usage I posit that animals lack the intelligence to be targets of terrorism. They havent invented mass media for a start.
For example, the duck population doesnt seem too worried about hunting season.

That's cause unlike in looney tunes, ducks really have no clue. When I was in school,I shot a duck with a bee bee gun from under a bridge. He just dropped dead, taking a swan dive into the ground. The other ducks (like 12 of them) just stood there. It didn't faze them. They didn't think "Now why the fuck did Eduardo just drop dead?" They just stood there.
wait.
They weren't ducks. They were birds.
Same difference.

In my experience, most fowl scatters in a flurry when they hear loud noises or feel threatened. Are you sure they weren't just deaf duck/birds, retarded duck/birds, gang duck/birds desensitized to violence because of their childhood and environment?
