SP. This is a trend. Where I work we used to all be in dorms. Those dorms aren't dorms anymore. They are now classrooms. Where are they now? In Host Home settings. I got one.
Colorado's made this change many years ago to our residental settings. There's still a few group homes out here but not near what we had 7 or so years ago.
I'm guessing Beatrice is both a school and a home? Eventually the residential department may be a thing of the past but the day program end wouldl still be operational.
Change sucks,but you'll get thru it. Good Luck.

Jump the train before it crashes. Find out where exactly they plan on placing your guys. Do all this now before everyone wants what you want. Don't just talk about it then wait and hope your agency will pull thru for you.
I think your at the residental end? I did residential my first 5 years here. When they did away with the residental department,I jumped the train way early and transferred to the day program department.
Change is hard but I don't think they're gonna get rid of you that easily. You and I know the higher ups will lose their jobs before any direct care staff will.
But research now,man.
Remember that your guys will ALWAYS NEED CARE. Follow them. Play your cards right and you'll be responsible for less people and very possibly get paid more.

What I meant was that you work with people that can walk and talk. My people would get shuffled off to various nursing homes across the state (where they would sit, rot and die). Right now the popular dumping ground is Hebron, but they can only absorb so many.

I refuse to work with geriatrics. If I go to a nursing home I'll be responsible for more and paid less. If I do anything, I'll just work two jobs and go visit the one or two residents I like the most in what free time I would have.

And what are you even talking about? Day program department?

Oh wow. We have a medically fragile department that's g-tube people in wheelchairs. Day program is basically the city bus takes them from their family or nursing home or host home and brings them there. Then at 2 to 3 o clock they get picked up.
That's wrong,though. The whole idea I thought was that they wanted them more involved with the community. This is a step backwards!

There are many people I know in my agency that transferred from watching many to watching only one. Because that one got state funding for one on one care,there was essentially more money in the pot and that transferred to higher pay. The system is funny.
I think this may in fact blow away and your agency will comply by deadline.

Just read all the comments. You know what? You're not gonna close. Not at the end of the month,not in one or two years. Why?
Money. It would cost a lot more money to move these people out than to keep them where they are.
That one comment where that lady supported the ARC was talking about everyone needs to be able to choose and that's EXACTLY what may happen down the road. They will take each case on an individual basis and when they suddenly discover that one by one each case has simply not enough money to place them in their own home or live with a single person in the community or a family or a group home(group homes NEVER generate profits) or a nursing home where they take ALL the funding,then they will come off their high handle and realise that raising a stir (To save money I'm sure) was a huge mistake and maybe things may come back to normal.
Let's hope.

Yea. It's the same here but you definitely have more profound. My guys are pretty profound but amblatory.
The way it's been here lately is that if a staff can't handle a person and no one else seems to want to take on that challenge,he's like discharged into another program.
Were going like the rest of them with keeping only what we can handle and not accepting anything too challenging. The waiting list for this agency is huge.
If I was to quit my job today,I'm sure my guys would be transferred. I can't even take a day off without some harrasment from the boss and we have to throw a big meeting as to who the fuck will watch my boys that day.
Your agency on the other hand dosen't seem to do that. You guys take all it seems.
I work with a bunch of wussies.
I hope it all works out.
