Doctors could not explain why the .32-caliber bullets did not penetrate Pereira's skull and didn't even need to be extracted immediately.

"I can't explain how something like this happened," surgeon Adriano Teixeira said, adding that the bullets were lodged under the woman's scalp.

The ex-husband was still at large.

When I was a student in Klamath Falls, Oregon they brought in a guy one night, cussing and struggling to get loose from the gurney. He had a bleeding head injury that we were told was a GSW. AP and lateral films of his skull showed a .38 slug had traveled halfway through his head, between the cortexes, before stalling out.

And all he wanted was to be released so he could go back and kick the ass of the guy who'd shot him. heh

skulls are made of pretty durable material, which is why its recommended that if you decided to shoot yourself in the head, you should put the gun in your mouth and aim upwards instead of aiming the gun at the side of your head.

.32's are pretty anemic, but you'd think that at least one of six could make it's way in. I guess not in this case. Either way, that is one woman that needs to buy a lottery ticket real quick.
