I'm thinking skiving off work next week. So the question is... is it better to play hookey when it's cold out and you don't feel like dealing with the snow or when it's warm and you can do something fantasic with your day?

If you want a day (or week) off... just ask for it.

I don't know what your employment offers in terms of salery while on sick leave... But when I call in sick, I still get my wages for that day. (its in my contract) I don't want to call in sick unless I have valid medical reasons to... and I find it unethical to take a day off and still get payed. So if I feel I need to take a day off, I'll just tell my employer my intentions, and I can take the day off without any problems (without wages, of course).

I find that arrangement to work out wonderfully. Transparency and mutual respect. mmm, mmm, good.

Hell, one of my friends asks for 4 months off almost every year (he likes traversing the globe about once a year).

I get 8 hours of paid Time Off every pay period that's every two weeks for I've been employed there so long. For personal reasons I just need to give them two weeks notice,but in an emergency it's also oh kay.
When Denver Public School is closed due to foul weather we also get that day off and it's considered a Holiday with pay that is NOT taken out of your PTO.
This Christmas,we get two weeks off and only need to take 4 days of PTO which I have many hours for I never call in sick.
