Any more of this and I'm poking out someone's eyeballs!

I fucking hate xmas music. I usually don't go to stores during this time, but I work in one now. They fucking started playing xmas music before Thanksgiving, even.

Is there a scientific study or something that explains why people hate xmas music so much? My co-workers seem to hate it as much as I do--but the store director's in charge of the music. And, no, it's not just that we have to hear it at work--we just hate it; except my boss, but I don't really count her.

They keep playing this song about e-mailing Santa and santa.com, or christmas.com, or some stupid shit like that. I think this is the one I hate the most this year. That and the fucking xmas island song.

So, which songs do you hate most?

MMmmm.... The Country/Western ones. I want "Alvin and the Chipmunks" and "The Barking Dogs" exclusively.

Oh, and Manheim Steamroller.

Yeah, when I was working in retail, the manager switched us to christmas music starting the day after Thanksgiving. It would've been sooner, but the rest of us kinda took a stand. Only one of my coworkers actually liked the christmas music (aside from the manager, and I'm not sure she liked it so much as thought customers would). And yeah, the shopping center where we were actually started playing the christmas music a week or two before thanksgiving.

As for what I hate, well... just about everything but Carol of the Bells (something about that one just gets me) and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra's Christmas Eve Sarajevo.

I dunno, I pretty much love all Christmas music. In my experience people who go on and on about how they hate anything, much less Christmas music, are just doing it so they can seem...well, edgy.

Though I will say that I love my two CD set of "early music" carols and whatnot over that insipid 5th Avenue crap.

I love your Christmas spirit! I wish I had Christmas spirit like that again.
I like most Christmas songs, some are annoying, especially if you can't turn it off. "Jingle Bell Rock" is at the top of my list, followed by "Grandma got run over by a Reindeer".

I'm not being "edgy". I'm telling you that the melodies found in xmas music awaken some kind of hatred. About the only one I like, if it even counts, is Joni Mitchell's "River".

P.S. I knew LF was going to tell how much he loves xmas music.

I work in a grocery store and I cant stand them anymore. They dont even play any good ones because "Christmas" and "Jesus" might offend some people.

But Im lucky enough to be able rock my iPod while Im working, so it wont bother me as much this year. Until my batteries die, anyway.

I have a simple solution.

I don't listen to that crap. Don't turn on the radio in the car, don't go in businesses playing it.

Difficult to achieve when you work in the store.

What is your new job, then, Flocat? Must be hard to find work with that 'sexual misconduct with a minor' charge hanging over you.

I don't mind the classic Christmas songs so much. The country ones are sappy , but that's just country music for you.

I like the season, the lights are cool. It's a break from the regular blandness.

And poking out someones eyes won't help, you need to poke out your eardrums. I suggest a Q tip.

Trey and i used to work with a guy who whistled "Oh Christmass Tree" all day, every day. Sadly, this was the least of his faults.
Ha Ha working sucks. Never again.

I'm the assistant manager for course materials at a university bookstore. I could've continued teaching, as it turns out, it was the day of her 18th birthday.

Not to change the subject, but on a similar, and more awesome, note:

I worked at Sams in the electronics "department" quite a few years back. As soon as Forrest Gump went to VHS, our manager played it. On all 31 televisions and thru the loudest systems. It was quite a welcome change from Jurassic Park, but the difference was that we had received an auto-rewinder that made sure we didn't have to remember to rewind and restart this goddamned film. After about a month of nearly continual play, someone in our department took the display copy home and edited it together with his\her favorite porn scenes and dubbed in some new dialog in some places.

You know the scene where Forrest's mom is getting him into a good school? That was particularly hilarious in the new edition. Etc. Etc. Etc.

Good times. Though, strangely enough, I was released shortly after that.
