Mokkori, I do feel for you. Losing family and friends is difficult enough - it is worse when sudden and unexpected. I hope that you, and your family, can find your way through this to a place of peace with it.

Thats terrible, Mokkori. It sounds like a lot of people are in pain. I'm with SS--may whatever peace is possible come to you and yours.

They still practice shock therapy in Sweden? It's no wonder she offed herself with such antiquated and ineffective therapy.

Shock therapy, or electro-convulsive therapy (ECT) is still in regular use in this country, SP.
quote: ECT is generally used in severely depressed patients for whom psychotherapy and medication are proving ineffective. It may also be considered when there is an imminent risk of suicide because ECT often has much quicker results than antidepressant remedies.

From Mokkori's description of events, it sounds like a reasonable course of action.

Um. Yeah. A treatment that has been largely discontinued since the 1960's is totally an appropriate course of action. I mean, they don't just stop using something because it worked so well.
100,000 idiots a year get subjected to it in the United States and that's just sad.

SP, that's not really the point. My father's sister killed herself a year after her treatment. Of course I disagree, of course I think, of course I'm angry. I wouldn't be human if I did otherwise. I couldn't force her.
I just know it hurts like hell.
