It provides the worker with an intensity necessary to do a good job and when I was in Industrial Management if an employee came to identify himself with his occupation we could rest assured that person was on the way up the corporate ladder and had or would develop the intensity to go on up the corporate ladder and become a successful executive. There was a movement when I was in the work force to advise persons to not let their job dominate their lives and to relegate their occupation to a secondary role in order to avoid "burn out". Balderdash! I never believed it then or now. I really believe that was a mere masque for a lack of dedication.

Well I am definitely a capitalist in sympathy if not in mode of living. I consider it a superior mode of organized civility and make no apologies for that belief.

I inquire as to the nature of the universe. It's how I roll, man.
At the moment, the current incarnation of this is working as a security consultant. I'm doing research on shoehorning methods of bioinformatics into the network defense problem. But, it's really just an excuse to study biology and wank on about empiricism and theories of analysis.
Can you believe that you can get paid for that shit?

Thanks for this thread,Oxsan. You reach out to so many, you don't even know.
I'm literally dying right now for I miss my job so much. People tell me to relax...there is such a thing as overly relaxed.

Of course one can get TOO vocationally intense LF and I will admit to doing just that when I was in my late twenties and very early thirties. I spent outrageous hours at my place of work and devoted far too much attention to it. It paid off in terms of my advancement in the company but made me a bit of a lopsided character at the time but I had a very interesting career and enjoyed my job very much---I don't regret what I put into the job.
